Topic: RIP Leonard Nimoy Posted: February 27 2015 at 15:38
At the age of 83, Leonard Nimoy passed away today, and joins Deforest Kelley and James Doohan in the eternal star journey.
Star Trek has been an obsession of mine since my father first let me watch the Original Series in 1969 at the age of five. The intelligence, compassion, and brilliance of the vision, of which Nimoy was fully signed up, continues to touch me to this day.
So, from a man whose life has been made immeasurably better by a great portrayal, have a great star journey Leonard. I hope one day we can compare notes in eternity.

I read this earlier on CNN and it made perfect sense. Nimoy, through Spock, was such a part of our lives growing up. I read this and it sort of drives it home. He was beloved in a way that I think few truly are... or likely ever will again. "I had an embarrassing experience once, many years ago," he told the NY Times in 2009,
"I was invited to go to Caltech and was introduced to a number of very
brilliant young people who were working on interesting projects. ... And
they'd say to me, 'What do you think?' Expecting me to have some very
sound advice. And I would nod very quietly and very sagely I would say,
'You're on the right track.' "
and I could imagine it made their day... I'm sure even today they still remember that as clear as if it happened yesterday. Hard to say why it the news of his death hits so hard, it has for many of us, so I can assume we all feel it, even if it is hard or simply impossible to put into words. He was a common part of many of our childhoods, and wants to get deep, part of our upbringings, a part of us I suppose. Thus there is a feeling of loss felt deeper than a mere celebrity or even musician. bah..

I think that is exactly it Ivan, he was a part of our childhoods, such a good part. Much like the whole series itself which had such positive message, even if not fully understood as young viewers.

The original series of Star Trek was a VERY important part of my formative years, and the main characters were real heros to me as a young boy in the late 1960s, and it's appeal never wore off, and never will!

RIP, Leonard Nimoy.
Perhaps my fave TV series during my childhood, each watched episode did convey interesting thoughts and messages, mainly from Spock's words... RIP Leonard Nimoy! I'm sure Heaven is celebrating...

Oh man, he was great in whatever Trek stuff he set foot in, plus it's always a blast to put on those old episodes of In Search Of... and hear him talk about history's mysteries and the paranormal ramblings of the day.
It's a strange phenomenon to be sure* when those who portray an unyielding rationality, an unsentimental logic with the outward appearance of a mechanoid, alien or robot, touch us in ways far more profoundly than those impersonating mere 'mortals' RIP Leonard, as Micky states, he was an indelible part of our formative years.

Such an icon for a number of generations, its like a friend of the family has passed! As others have mentioned, a big part of my youth and beyond as Spock. Also, loved his role in the Mission Impossible series.
Leonard, you will be missed.

One of my favorite stories is how when his father would take him to Temple the priests (kohen) would do a sacred blessing, and Lenny was required to keep his eyes closed-- but one day he peeked and saw the priests holding their hands in a strange configuration ;

Never as much into Star Trek as a lot of people, but I did quite enjoy the original series in no small part thanks to the character dynamic between Kirk/McCoy/Spock which wouldn't have worked as well without Nimoy's input.
RIP.

I forgot yesterday to ask here if someone knows who composed that music played at the end of each Star Trek episode, I'd be grateful, it's stuck on my memory like if I had heard it today...

that was very touching.. it reminded me yesterday of something that affected me profoundly when younger. One of my handful of favorite movie scenes EVER.
just watching it now... the hairs are standing up straight on the back of my neck. So very poignant and cuts to the heart of our own mortalities.
