Not into Kraut that much but Neu! might be one of my favourite albums of all time. Also, the first five ADII albums, every Can album (even Out Of Reach) and Code III have nice things to offer. Yeah, nothing interesting to share. I also listened to BrainTicket's latest album and found it pretty enjoyable. Might go out and buy it.

My favorite early Krautrock groups are Popol Vuh and Neu! Completely different approaches to their sound, to say the least!

In the mid seventies I became bored with US releases and started collecting imports. Birth Control was the first German band I got into after hearing the song Gamma Ray from the HooDoo Man album. I continued collecting their albums because I liked the heavy organ and guitar. Then it was Eloy with their heavy symphonic sound followed by Novalis with a similar sound. I moved on to Jane, again for the heavy sound and accumulated several of their LPs. Then I discovered Desert Places and Lost Mankind by Satin Whale and Blue Apple by Gift. I found several albums by Grobschnitt, Karthago, Kin Ping Meh, Kraan and Epsilon. For straightforward hard rock I picked up Epitaph with double lead guitars. Two long time hard rock favorites were UFO and Scorpions but I was already collecting their US albums.

Grobschnitt, Eloy, Triumvirat, Kraftwerk, Schicke, Fuhrs, & Frohling, and a couple from Novalis (and not necessarily in that order). After that, pick it.

Triumvirat (my favourite band) Wallenstein Jail (featuring former Triumvirat members) Pell Mell Eloy Jane Birth Control Satin Whale

I get crossed up sometimes on what's Krautrock or not, so I just go by how they're listed in PA. Popol Vuh falls under the Krautrock sub genre while TD is listed under Electric Prog. But I don't believe anyone is going to cause a fuss if TD and Tom Schulze are included on this post.

Well the thing is(IMO) Eloy's early stuff Inside and Floating i'd consider Krautrock along with TD's debut but the majority of what both of these bands put out I'd put under a different sub-genre. TD's under Eclectic? To me they are Electronic all the way. I love the Krautrock people and one thing i've been wanting to do for a long time is have a top 10 or 20 list from each sub-genre. Man that will be hard. I will list some of my Krautrock favs later though. Even Popol Vuh's debut is quite different from the rest of their stuff.
