Humberto Gessinger: song writing machine, multi-instrumentalist, singer and the mastermind behind Brazilian rock band Engenheiros do Hawaii (on a hiatus since 2008 i think).

In my humble opinion He's not a musician playing progressive rock, but a progressive artist pushing the boundaries of Southern Brazilian traditional music by mixing it with rock, jazz and even eletronic sounds and also the other way around by using traditional folk instruments (accordion, viola caipira, mandolin, etc) in all of his musical endeavors.

As I said he doesn't write progressive music, but I can find progressive bits here and there throughout all his work (he started in 1985 and still keeps rocking).

I hope some people here take some time to discover this talented artist :)

Very nice thread!
Thanks, it will give more exposure to these "forgotten" bands.
And though Mexico is not precisely a South American country, I would like to share with you this band named Cronomad, whose music offers a great blend of prog, psych and even some post rock.

It would be awesome if some of you can listen to them, and why not, write a review.
