hi all ! I'm Davide, guitars and keyboards in a couple of prog or near-prog bands from Genova.
I've been browsing for long time PA reviews and now I'm glad to participate to the forum :-)

Hmm, I see you credited on releases by Ballo delle Castagne, Egida Aurea and Runes Order - of which the first is in the database here. Any other band projects you're involved in?

Hope you enjoy the contents of these archives :-)

I admit I never would have thought I'd be identified so quickly !
That is really impressive sir, and thanks heartly for your interest :-)

At the moment I'm working with Il Segno Del Comando and with Zena Soundscape Project : the first one is also reviewed in your database, I recoderded in Il Volto Verde and am playing live with the band.

As for my favorites in prog music, I'd like to say that I love lurking in the no-man's-land that blurs progressive music bonduaries, so these years I loved Secret Chiefs 3, Universal Totem Orchestra, Ozric tentacles, Tessetact, a few things form Infected Mushroom, Gordian Knot, Gong ( Allen and Moerlen's versions ) ... while keeping close to classics as some Pink Floyd, Early Golbin, PFM possibly with De André, Cynic's Focus and some Opeth.

thanks for your warm welcome :-)

Ah, I knew I had stumbled across your name somewhere - while site editor Vitaly cut down the credits list I did note down all the people involved when writing this review. As your name rang a bell I used Google, and it didn't take too many minutes before I got information. I tend to hit the search engines when I'm curious about stuff.

Personally I'd say quite a few of the artists you mention are fairly deep in the heartland of prog - but that's just me. I'll toss something to you that you may not have come across that might interest someone that enjoys music that cross some boundaries here and there.

Ah ah then I'm glad you've been curious and found my tracks !

Thanks alot for the suggestion :-)
I'm browsing a few Redd's composiitons, and it's a rela nice discovery for me.
They achieve having this dry, not over-effected wibe that makes a quite defined and punchy sound, while retaining enough layers and dynamics in compositions and mix, to make thier music colorful and interesting.

And thanks also for the nice review!
I had read only the short version here on PA, and the extended part is both an enjoyable read and an accurate analysis of the album ( at least I find it is ! ).

The "constant undercurrent of unnerving and ominous moods throughout this album" is really spot-on, as Diego is fond of having a real grooving and driving rhymic section in his writing, that links directly to the way his bass guitar is mixed... needless to say that it's a blast to play guitar and have solos in this kind of context :-)

If I may add, I feel the mix has that 70's vibe on purpose, as to move further from "Der Golem" sound, and its somewhat 90's prog-metal influenced sound.

Glad you found Redd to be enjoyable. To be a 70's band I find their style rather peculiar - not too many others I know about from that era that explored music in such a manner. Brittle, dry, delicate, but also using textures in a manner many post rock bands might find familiar I suspect. And forceful and powerful when needed. Personally I'm charmed a lot by their drummer, who to my mind is the centre of the band, and also have great fun listening to the guitarist adding a bluesy detail there and what I'd describe as sleepy jazz-tinged details to the proceedings on occasion too. That is speaking from the point of view of someone who just listen to music though - I've never played an instrument nor studied it.

As for your comment above, it's typical of a description that I feel should come from a participating musician rather than a reviewer. If I had listened to Der Golem (I can't recall if I ever did...) I might have observed the difference, but as to putting it into such a context would have been speculation on my part. I would probably have described it instead - something along the lines of "unlike their previous albums more contemporary, metal-oriented style this most recent release have a stronger focus on a vintage 70's sound" would have been a typical description from me. Interesting to know though, thanks :-)

It's not all that often I make observations of this kind I'm afraid, when going through 200+ albums each year I fear on most occasions I have a hard time recalling a band's previous album other than on more superficial terms.

200+ reviews each year is an impressive record, I understand it is not possible to kepp in mind the whole band history for each of them.
I'm sorry I sometimes forget that not everyone can be "inside" the project as much as a collaborating musician, I was just developing the subject out of enthusiasm, but the review was spot-on anyway :-)

Oh, I understand where you're coming from. Which is why I described how I regard such matters in some detail. This is stuff that is obvious to me, but I fully understand that when you're deeply involved and invested in a project, you'll generally be unable to reflect upon how matters appear to those that doesn't have that connection. So this was an explanation, and a glimpse into how my mind works on such matters :-)
