The Rotter's Club - wonderful. Lucky to see him live with National Health in 78 supporting Hillage. It's a shame he got so pissed off with the industry, then the same thing happened with Bruford...

Yeah, I wanted to like Space Shanty, but after many repeated attempts I'm afraid I just can't see the appeal. Might have been more interesting as an instrumental record; the lyrics are really just awful.

I gotta say that I love his contribution to Hugh Hopper's album Hopper Tunity Box - that Gnat Prong is a knock-out...........
............and I don't understand what's all the hoohaa about Space Shanty ?? Bleeding' BRILLIANT album - Nick Greenwood does a stellar job on bass (and vocals, though the lyrics are a bit cheesy - they were late-teens-early 20's....). Such free and great feeling songs, one on the best. Edited by Tom Ozric - March 31 2015 at 15:29 |

His originals with partner Barb were much better than the covers - Waiting In The Wings, The World Spins So Slow, Lenena Crow....... Wish he'd play his fuzz-box Hammond once again.............. |

Ah! What I meant was National Health were let down, constantly, by useless promoters etc. Dave S. decides to join Bruford and on eve of US tour, there was some row between Bruford and management over Dave S's royalties so once again he'd had enough. One might say the pop singles were a cynical attempt at getting something back from an industry that had let him down badly during the 70s. Speculating, mind! He seemed to refuse joining the Hatfield reunion in the 90s etc. so I don't know what was going on there.

^ I getcha !!
I just thought I'd say "I bring to your attention....." No great musician was immune during the 80's, and gimme Dave-Barb's Locomotion over Kylie Minogue's ANY DAY !!! At least he infused his chosen songs with a dash of humour and inventiveness. Christ knows if he had performed The Locomotion with one of his famed fuzzed-out organ solos in the 80's.............I'm sure the label-exects would've laughed him out of the office............... ..........a compromise must be made............ Bruford's Gradually Going Tornado is a super album from the time. I'm sure he still revved his Hammond then. Edited by Tom Ozric - March 31 2015 at 15:32 |

^Me too Pierre
As for the poll? Let me just echo Ian's sentiments and say where's the 'all of them' option Ahh what the heck, the National Health debut it is. Love me some Elephants Oh and knowing John and his IT skills it might just be better to embed that Ghoulies track if he's ever going to listen to it Edited by Guldbamsen - March 31 2015 at 05:41 |

Also missing is his contribution to Wyatt's 1974 album live at Drury Lane when he hurt his thumb

The Dave Stewart/Barbara Gaskin albums got a heap o' airplay from me. Big Idea.
When I met David A. Stewart of the Eurythmics for the first time, I asked him if he was often mistaken for his other namesake. "Yes," he said with a chilly look and turned to talk to another. I felt a small victory for art. (For the record, Annie Lennox and I got along super because I had played Les Vampyrettes with Holger Czukay)
