20 albums of this period, there are plenty more, maybe for another poll if this one gets some votes and comments. Do use the "other" option (only) if you DON'T like these choices.

Even if it were, Angherr Shisspa was released in 2005.

My vote goes to Porcupine Tree just above David Gilmour. My favourite album of the period: Part the Second - Maudlin of the Well.

Radiohead > Porcupine Tree > Gilmour

I could list a couple of dozen Avant/Zeuhl album I'd rate ahead of any of these but what the heck.

Voted "other". Pure Reason Revolution's 2006 debut The Dark Third remains the single best album I've heard this century so far.

My fave out of this lot is Steve Wilson's debut. I think it's his best release as a solo artist. He managed to mix his love of post-punk and the dark romanticism of the 80s with his affinity for prog rock in a way that ended up sounding wholly original imo. Love that one.

As for the other option (which I'm refraining from using), I'll just mention the first ones that spring to mind:

Grails - Burning Off Impurities
Invisible Opera Company Of Tibet - UFO Planante
Dungen - 4
Electric Orange - Morbus
The Future Kings Of England - The Fate Of Old Mother Orvis
Espers - ll
Alcest - Écailles de Lune
Gregor Samsa - 55:12
Vespero - By The Waters Of Tomorrow
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
Diagonal - s/t
Gösta Berlings Saga - Tid Ar Ljud
ZU - Carboniferous
Lye By Mistake - Fea Jur
Syrinx - Qualia
Magyar Posse - Random Avenger
One Shot - Dark Shot
The Box - D'Après Le Horla De Maupassant

I really like that one (especially the Floyd ode 'The Bright Ambassadors Of Morning'), but it is the subsequent Amor Vincit Omnia that takes the cake for me. Funny, because most of the prog community absolutely hated that one because of the electronic pop influences the group had incorporated into their sound. To me though, it's one of a few modern releases that successfully pairs prog with cutting edge electro-pop.

DittoThumbs Up. Out of the albums included in this list that I have heard, I'd pick Radiohead. Here are some of my favourite releases from that period:

Afroskull - To Obscurity and Beyond
Miriodor - Avanti!
Forgas Band Phenomena - L'Axe du Fou
Zevious - After the Air Raid
Cheer-Accident - Fear Draws Misfortune
Frogg Cafe - Bateless Edge

Edit: David, good call on Dungen, Phideaux, Espers and the mighty Gösta Berlings Saga (though I'd also pick their second, Detta Här Hänt)

FOABP has really grown on me since it was first released, so much so that I genuinely enjoy it now....but I do prefer the accompanying EP Nil Recurring to it. Gotta love 'What Happens Now?'Big smile
