Voted "other". Pure Reason Revolution's 2006 debut The Dark Third remains the single best album I've heard this century so far.
I really like that one (especially the Floyd ode 'The Bright Ambassadors Of Morning'), but it is the subsequent Amor Vincit Omnia that takes the cake for me. Funny, because most of the prog community absolutely hated that one because of the electronic pop influences the group had incorporated into their sound. To me though, it's one of a few modern releases that successfully pairs prog with cutting edge electro-pop.
I like all their albums, and definitely do not hate the electronic stuff that permeates their later work, but looking back, The Dark Third really is the one with more staying power to my ears. Maybe because it's a bit easier to listen.
It's certainly an easier listen if you come from a rock or prog rock background. I have some friends that will testify to this I don't have Hammer & Anvil yet - is it any good? Been meaning to check it out but I must've forgotten.

I like it. It's closer in approach to AVO, but slightly more conceptual and agressive.

I have to vote for the neo prog juggernaut that is IQ. However that Radiohead album is stunning so I am quite pleased to see it winning. Also Steven Wilson's Insurgentes is a tad underrated ( FOABP conversely) imo.

Judging from the amount of people prefering his other solo albums, I'd say it's criminally underrated - I still find it the best thing he's done since Stupid Dream.
I could list a couple of dozen Avant/Zeuhl album I'd rate ahead of any of these but what the heck.
Ditto. Out of the albums included in this list that I have heard, I'd pick Radiohead. Here are some of my favourite releases from that period:
Afroskull - To Obscurity and Beyond Miriodor - Avanti! Forgas Band Phenomena - L'Axe du Fou Zevious - After the Air Raid Cheer-Accident - Fear Draws Misfortune Frogg Cafe - Bateless Edge
Edit: David, good call on Dungen, Phideaux, Espers and the mighty Gösta Berlings Saga (though I'd also pick their second, Detta Här Hänt)
Thanks Raff I love GBS's second album as well. The closer is a real humdinger!
Oh and btw, do you know the Italian band I listed called ZU?
As a ZART girl you should definitely check out Carboniferous (I can vividly imagine your fellow husband headbanging away to this album)

from your list I know Mindgames (but another album, not the one you mentioned), Neal Morse (obviously), Dreamscape, Knight Area (although I haven't listened to them in a really long time, maybe I should give them another chance), I have heard of Obscura (at least I know who they are, I dunno if I will listen to a full length from them though as death metal is not really my thing, very few bands I listen to, maybe I'll listen to some songs to satisfy my curiosity ). The Windmill - I know who they are, I haven't listened to a full length though.
