Topic: Prog Song Pit 2 Posted: April 16 2015 at 22:54
Hey guys
So I'm sure remember the thread from a couple months ago called Prog Song Pit created by Horizons. I thought it was a really cool idea and I was hoping he would stick with it or eventually start another one. So I thought I would piggy back off of his idea, I hope thats ok with you Horizons.
Just like before I will post a song everyday untill I don't feel like it, and you share all your thoughts on the song. Then maybe somebody else can continue the prog song pit in the future.
Alright lets get started
Simple but sweet

Always loved Family...great band that is hard to classify with so many different elements.
Their first 3 are the best imho though there are some good tracks on the later ones also which as someone said Wetton appeared on.
Being a KC fan Islands is ok in my book though that track is an anomaly in that it's more of a classical chamber piece than prog...though KC have incorporated such styles before.
Never owned any Crack The Sky. One of those bands that slipped past my radar in the past though friends would play them from time to time.. Been meaning for years now to re-listen to the first 3 again to see what they are all about. I see PA lists them as 'heavy prog'....not sure why....sound more like crossover to me.

That song is a good example of why I can't get into them.
Didn't like the vocals. Too whiny and overdramatic without having any actual impact. The musicianship was stale. Sounded like it was computer-generated. Just flat.

Have to agree with Horizons on the Marillion track....basically a 10 minute long love song that's not very proggy at all. I never have been a big Marillion fan even back in the Fish days but the new songs are just really uninteresting to me; more background music than anything else.

No reason to be sorry at all, in fact I actually agree you guys on that song. Its a long drawn out simple love song that really shouldn't be considered prog.
I was just curious if anybody likes the new album by marillion. I won't say that I don't like all of Steve Hogarths albums with Marillion, cause I really enjoy Marbles.

Great music! Strongly hooking and the "climax" with those guitars are a must! I love Curved Air, and this track is very much in the spirit of Piece Of Mind, which I love even more - it feels more intense to me, apart from some strong subtleties.
