Perhaps Simon Phillips has already been mentioned (but here in China, the Internet is slower than molasses - it literally takes "forever" to scroll from one page to the next...)

Of particular note is his jaw-dropping work with Jeff Beck on "Space Boogie" (on 'There and Back').  Hard to believe that was 35 years ago.  Also around the same timeframe is his work on Rutherford's solo project, 'Smallcreep's Day.'

Of course, Phillips continues to be iconic to the present day.  He has not always played "prog," known more as an all-around session drummer, but his skills are difficult to match and are often emulated by others (I try, but I cannot hold a candle to his prowess...)

^ A great drummer who's been involved in some excellent jazz albums from Hiromi in recent years.

I wonder if this has been posted yet but Mahavishnu had a great drum solo from Cobham on BoF: https://youtu.be/XU4yAk6qYUs?t=6m3s

He's pretty incredible.

Anyone mentioned Yoshida Tatsuya of Ruins and Koenjihyakkei yet?

Sure people's mileage will vary with the rest of it but really one of the most distinctive drummers today.

I have seen many legends ( Cozy Powell, Ian Paice, Neal Peart, Terry Bozzio and many more ) and I must say that Morgan Ågren deserves to be in the same league!!
Agreed, his work with Simon Steensland is great too, esp. Der Klang Von 'Musik', and The Lion Tamer off of the Fat Again album Approve

I had a Koenjihyakkei album uploaded to my phone and was playing that at work for my crew (only Micky is allowed to provide work music) a week or two ago and one of the guys is a drummer and he was absolutely floored by what he was hearing...

Yoshida is extremely skilled, he plays complicated polyrhythmic stuff, he can sing and shout while playing and he has a unique snare sound. He's one of my favourite prog musicians of today.
