If quantity of live shows doesn't matter, then its easy for me.  Kate Bush. 

None of these blokes ever commanded a stage and did the things she did on the Tour of Life.  At a very young age she put together all of that choreography and then sang immaculately while doing it all.

giving it to the dude in the flower outfit... the other guy? Prog frontman?  Nah... no what  he was the greatest frontman of fashioned challenged hobo bands as well as the greatest frontman for a  folk rock band LOL

James LaBrie?  really?  Steve Wilson!!!???  HAH!!!

Of those I've seen live it is a tossup between Gabriel and Mr Tull. I remember seeing Gabriel at the Barcelona Football Stadium (Nou Camp) 20 odd years back and he was simply gobsmackingly good, so he gets the nod but j jaysus guys, Wilson at 47 is the youngest here. Excusing La Brie and Fish the rest of them are out shopping for zimmer frames while as good as they are/were charisma is not the first word that comes to mind.

In all fairness Collins should have made the list though I'd have still given it to Gabriel even though I am not still pining for the fjords. (Other than I never did get to see Lamb live .... sigh !)

Peter Gabriel for me.
As for Ian Anderson: he's probably good too, hearing the funny stories he tells live (hilarious), but I was a bit disappointed when I saw Tull live.
Peter Gabriel always has some interesting visual things that catches your eye, like rolling in some kind of inflated ball on stage. Of course, I didn't even mention his Genesis days, which speak for themselves.

My vote goes to Gabriel, though Fish (and I think you mean the Marillion one) is a close second. Having seen him with Marillion in the early 80's was such an amazing experience.

Kind of a trick question--  if by 'best frontman' we mean most skilled as an individual; brought the most to a band; or was a great stage leader.   Geddy may be a technically superior bassist to Greg, but better?   No I don't think so.

In terms of fronting a band, Ian Anderson all the way. Great stage presence and on-stage personality. Not a half bad musician either.

Good comment, welcome to PA!  I saw IA a few times (TAAB, Minstrel) and he was truly amazing!  And, he is a very good musician on almost any instrument he touches, much like Gabriel!

I like Jon Anderson a lot but I voted for Ian Anderson. I Only saw Tull once but he was amazing on stage.

Voted for Ian Anderson (plays all instruments and really fronts the band, on top of that a very gifted songwriter)

Others:
- Freddy Mercury (although he only plays piano, he really commands the crowd)
- Michael Sadler (plays all instruments, even a drumsolo, and interacts very well with the crowd.)
- Bernie Shaw (not to dismiss all other Heep-singers, but Shaw sings all songs from the entire history of the band, and fronts the band for over 30 years!!! now)


The theatrical guys Fish, Peter Gabriel, Andy Sears, Geoff Mann, Peter Nicholls etc. are all very okay, but most of the time they don't bring anything musical to the band. Visually enchanting, but I'm more interested in hearing music.

And seeing David Gilmour in the list, is kind of weird. He's a extremely boring stage presence. Frank Bornemann is much more engaging.
