I'm afraid you missed it, friend. |
Why missed it?
I don't like King Crimson, except ITCOTCK and Starless.
You can't miss your taste.

Absence of king crimson in a poll like this is unforgivable. You should have named it "My big three" or smth

From a commercial stand point (units sold) the poll is probably correct (not sure if Rush might sneak in ahead of Yes though). Artistically its entirely subjective Gentle Giant King Crimson plus one other

This 'big three' is valid from about 1975, until then ELP took the place of Genesis. Seems churlish to vote on this one because of the importance of these bands in the development of prog.

If you take it up to 1980 then its a dead heat between Yes and Genesis for me while Pink Floyd would only just scrape into my top ten favourite bands in that period.Beyond 1980 I do find that Yes made some albums that I still want to listen to plus a superb DVD with orchestra. Floyd just became a pastiche of themselves and Genesis ended up making pop albums with some prog on them although Domino and Fading Lights were great late efforts admittedly. My heart though always goes with Yes. Even if they did 'pop' it still had some weight to it. There are still some nice keyboards even on The Big Generator! In summation: Yes> Genesis>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Pink Floyd | I would say 90125 trumps anything Genesis released after Duke, Big Generator is weak, but still has some better songs than Genesis, IT and WCD but overall based on their output between 1970 - 1980 Genesis win hands down for me.

Far from my top 3 bands, but Genesis are at least somewhere in my top 10, so they get my vote.

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

I'll say he's right on the money about PF, but way too kind to Yes, they're not top 20 material either, at least not for me.

Genesis got my vote due to process of elimination. With Pink Floyd I'm basically into the Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals period. I've never been much into Yes. It's a combination of vocals and too much radio play back then.
