Topic: 1972...Folk-Rock....Acoustic Balladeers...Whatever Posted: May 05 2015 at 05:53 |
Continuing my musical review of 1972, we have the burgeoning singer/songwriter category mingling with the folk-rock category. So many to choose from during that year that it was ridiculous, and I stopped at 12.

Nick Drake - Pink Moon. I think it's my favourite album of his. Just Nick's voice and guitar (and a little piano). 'Road', 'Parasite', 'Things Behind the Sun' - all send shivers down the spine.

Some very good albums there and a few are brilliant......really tough choice....I love Drake, Mitchell, Denny, and Van.......I'll pick Nick Drake today.

How about Alan Hull's solo album... Pipedream. Likewise his band Lindisfarne

Really hard not to go for Neil Young on this one, but Pink Moon steals it for me.

I'm also a Neil Young fan....if the OP had listed After The Gold Rush I would have voted for neil.

And I would have certainly added After the Gold Rush, if only Neil had waited until 1972 to release it, rather than two years earlier in 1970. Obviously, Neil lacked patience.

I keep missing the 1972 factor on these poll choices......

"Sitting" by Cat Stevens? If so, yes, definitely. My favorites from that album are "Boy with a Moon & Star on His Head" and "Angelsea".

agreed. For The Roses is one of Joni Mitchell's 'lesser' albums from that period imo... might've gone for her if it was Blue/Clouds/Court & Spark (I can't vote on any polls on here for some reason, do I need a certain number of posts?)

None of the albums were the best that they ever put out besides Pink Moon.

I believe that Five Leaves Left is superior to Pink Moon. Nice contributions by Richard Thompson of Fairport and Danny Thompson of Pentangle.
