Hi, I'm Steve and I hope the forum owners don't mind me letting users know that I've started up a new facebook page called Modern Art Rock. The term 'Art Rock' is getting more commonly used but there seemed to be no outlet for it, very little on www searches. What is it? Well I see it as bold, original, experimental and creative, not only musically but also visually. I'm starting to find that with more open access to home recording and video making bands are starting to have license to be more creative but poor outlets to show it off. Creative will also mean 'different' and the powers that be controlling the media seem to want to only market what they control or what is the same as the last success and are therefore scared of 'different' and we get stuck with dull, boring, predictable pap pop and rock.
I'm trying to create another little window for unsigned art rock/prog bands (like this superb forum does) so people have a place to discover them and bands can meet others in the facebook environment, as this was what I was looking for and couldn't easily find ...so I set one up!
So then -  any band that feels they meet the creative 'Art Rock' criteria (which in truth isn't a million miles away from Prog rock) then I'm really happy to post you on my facebook page. If it sounds too much like something else and doesn't feel creative or artistic enough then please be prepared for a very sorry and apologetic rejection!
I've just set out with this so really keen to get it populated by new unsigned bands. Thank you for you time.

I have done my first review on this new facebook page and it's of Farmhouse Odyssey from California. they were the first band to send me anything and they are a talented young creative prog band and I gave them a 4/5 rating and posted links to their music and on line stuff. Looking for more new Art Rock bands!!
Steve

just reviewed the next unsigned new band discovered via this forum, the excellent Kezia from Italy - 4 out of 5 rating!
Hoping to make a good window for 'modern art rock' bands so please let me know about potential candidates and please like and share the facebook page and help this bands be seen and create a place for fans to find them.

Hi there, sorry to be awkward but everything thing I do is essentially all about being on line, on my site I want to be able to point people to something they can go with a simple mouse click and see on line for themselves and I'm just trying to set up a common point where bands can be seen and fans can find, explore and discover new Modern Art Rock that the mainstream hasn't picked up on yet (I've set this up as I was frustrated there really wasn't any specific decent site for this genre). If you have a band then you really need to get on line with it: a facebook page is free and easy to set up, as is a soundcloud or bandcamp page for your audio and/or you tube videos. Do that and post me on line a link to a decent piece of music (video even better which helps to express your 'art' of your music) and I'll post it on my page (with a review if you want it). If the facebook page takes off then I'll make a website and have listings for every band I've reviewed and a list of modern art bands to check out, and hopefully people have somewhere to go to find this fantastic, creative and exciting genre of music! thanks - Steve

Thank you for suggestions on this post, excuse my time in getting back, work getting in the way!
Three thirteen - I've listened to all your soundcloud tracks, so much skill and time must have been out into that and all the amazing sounds, arrangements and professional sounding production. However the thing is, I'm not seeing it as the genre of Modern Art Rock that I'm setting out to explore (that's just my opinion). It's in no way a reflection on the excellent music or musicianship, just a genre thing. To me it sits more with new age, lounge jazz or prog in places ....but that's just my take on it. In some ways I'd like to put everyone's music in as I know full well the effort and passion that goes in but I need to make sure I'm clear about the direction of my site otherwise it'll be a big mash of styles without a clear direction; I want it a bit rock and I want it with originality and made with creativity in mind rather than commercialisation and I'd also love the art explored or expanded on with interesting visuals.

The facebook site Modern Art Rock is growing - always looking for appropriate style bands to review and promote and members of this blog may also like to just hear the music promoted on here, there's some great stuff already

This seems like a great oppurtunity to let my brand new Prog/space rock album with orchestral influences be reviewed maybe? I only uploaded it on YT:

It's a solo album and I'm looking if I can start a band so there can be singing in too, as my singing voice isn't good enough I think.

Thx in advanceBig smile

Hey! Thank you very much Lord Xorilyg, the more we can spread the word the more it will help bands. If this does take off (and I'm getting regular likes now) then I'll do a website and all my bands reviewed, like yours, will have their own page with links etc. many thanks! - Steve
