Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert are both gay, and they were very active in the 90s death metal scene.

Slightly off-topic, from my limited experience interacting with either I get the impression the goth/industrial/noise scene is by far the music subculture that overlaps the most with the LGBT community.

Thats true toaster. That is something in gothic. But hey, I do convince the last date of mine to like Thick as a Brick. Spread the word, you know?

Micky, did you dress in drag? I missed that part. LOL

Agreeing with Toaster and GKR. Also of course as a scene very much into electronic but generally of a danceable kind such as New Order .... yeah I know hardly Prog. Going purely on my circle of friends (which given my anti social proclivities is both wierd and diverse) Pink Floyd and Bowie are areas of interest but I've never seen much of a coherent interest in Prog as a genre.

oh yeah..  did it occasionally for years.. I was a bit of a free spiritied wild child with a good sized drinking problem. Before I settled down and got married for the first time I hung with a wild crowd that liked to do things like that or going into biker bars and starting fights. I also did have to stop when my tits and ass started to sag and I got fat and  couldn't fit into that little black dress anymore.

f**k my ole boots - never thought folks of that inclination would be involved in the Death Metal scene. I was surprised when I heard that Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) was Gay. There you go. I know nothing - compared to me, Gay is probably quite 'normal'...........(not that I'm into kids, animals, necrophaelia, vomit, spam, or anything remotely 'odd', just some women partaking in regular activities that just 'does it' for me).
........too much info already........

Good argument; don't put todays standards on the 1970's. I tend to agree with you.

But on another level ... I recently saw a documentary about the 1970's were a well known Dutch socialist politician was doing a plea on national TV for accepting the practice of pedophelia. Just as long as the child is consenting. Zeitgeist too.

To be perfectly clear: I do realize that's a whole different thing.
The BF cover: yeah, it was probably innocent.
I too believe the blind faith album cover was made without second or bad intentions however even 60's to date, I do think it is not right. Hey I too shock people sometimes about my open mind and provocative things that sometimes come out of my mouth, however that cover is a big no no.
those Dutch ecologist tried again the pedophelia thing in the mid-00's, much to everyone's horror (if memory serves, there was a subjet on this in this forum). and many religions & sects are for it (marriage around 9 or 10, etc.) How about that sick Rael dude??
Kati, it's all in how your rapport with nudity (or nakedness) is.... It's no problem to film a four years-old running naked from the bathtub laighing as he escapes from his parents, but not a pubescent girl?
As for Scorpions' Virgin Killer artwork, most kraut groups were into provocation (those Birth Control covers LOL)... Germans were often tasteless in those years.

Hey, I dig Kajagoogoo - doesn't mean I 'bat for the same team' so to speak.....
Prog is for those intelligent and willing enough to embrace it. Whatever orientation they please.
After many years, I don't understand why most folks can't get ^into it.
My sister always loves Yes, Wakeman, Floyd, ELP, Maiden, Caravan, Eloy, Pendragon, Camel, even Soft Machine's debut (loves Wyatt and his Hope For Happiness chant) etc. etc. and even digs TFK and Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, modern Marillion and so-on when I spin them. She can't stand Hammill or VDGG, Magma (or any Zeuhl bands for that matter, and she recognises this style when I play them), Henry Cow, Residents blah blah blah.......... She is an 80's child, always will love Duran Duran, Kids In The Kitchen, ABC, INXS and so forth. She don't even dig Kajagoogoo anymore coz I've embraced them whole-heartedly..........
Prog does not chose its audience, its audience chooses it. Diverse music for diverse folks.........
(f**k I can ramble.............. )

^ I forgot to mention Genesis - my sis loves Genesis - anything from Trespass on - especially Trick Of The Tail and 80's Genesis. And ELO, Moodies - man, my sis is more ProgHead than anything else. Pity there's not more chicks like her......

Cynic, which Paul and Sean are now it's core members, are still active in Extreme/Tech, Andy, and are one of my favorite Prog metal groups.

SteveG, hello! Hugm
Well it depends how you look at it, Prog Album covers in 70's were kinda fab and hot tho' i.e. the likes of Blind Faith, Bitches Brew or Santana's Abraxas and offcourse stoned Hendrix Electric Ladyland among others....

Instead of being open minded and progressive these days we seem to have gone back to Victorian era Confused

Hugs! xxxx

I've  always had the notion that prog (British prog that is) was somehow grounded in the Victorian age in that all lyrical topics are either about gnomes, imaginary places or imaginery people. Sort of like an HG Wells novel.

I honestly haven't met enough people who like prog (besides all you guys) to see a sexual orientation separation. My guess is no, because you're allowed to indulge in whatever you desire and you shouldn't be judged for it.

Yes, prog rock is only for heterosexuals. As a matter of fact, being a proud member of the gay community, I am going to have to ask you to give up your gay card at once!

YOU CAN DO THAT!?

I validated mine in the last Gay Parade, and the Gayverment said it was ok!

I like beer and I like cheese, I like women and I like prog but I can live without all of these...and if I was to have the choice, I'd rather be on horseback!
