lasted 27 minutes... didn't have a songlist in front of me.. but suspect things weren't going to get more interesting.

ahh.. let's say Morse is not in the running for my vote..

moving on to the Muse album... we have it.. likely never played.. and robably still have the wrapping on it LOL

Indeed. And even more awful is seeing a masterpiece such as Avanti! lagging behind. I have never been so tempted by the lure of multiple ID'sEvil Smile.

don't worry..   I've never been good about resisting temptations...

unless there is a large stylistic shift coming ..where I'm sure there is not

ranking them
1. Avanti
*distance from Alexandria to DC
2. Absolution
*distance from DC to Rome*
3. Deloused  .. it is genius I know.. but I just can't enjoy it and I should..I love high energy chaos.. that is and always has been a  mystery to me. Why the group and that album never bit me.
*distance from Rome to Sirius*
4. ?

holding my vote...  on to the next poll...

My apologies but time is pressing and I confess to skimming. My nephew insisted that his uncle just had to get into MV and I do kind of like them but that track is perhaps a little too much of a headbanger for my frail old ears. Muse didn't make much of an impression. Miriador, very interesting and well worth further exploration. Obviously Morse (man that is simply awful) and MV will both go through so my vote is of no consequence. Miriador. Can I go back to Pikapika Teart now ?

Miriodor are also one of the best live bands I've been lucky to see in the past few years, and a very nice bunch of guys to boot. Their most recent album, Cobra Fakir, is also excellent, though I would rank it slightly lower than the slice of perfection that is Avanti!. Glad to see you dig themSmile!

yeah.. no reason to sit on this..  I really liked the Muse album.. but it didn't come close to the brilliance of Avanti... an avant album I loved even before Uncle Ian and Auntie Raff started turn to me to the dark side...

Enjoyed the Miriodor sample, and I love their latest album, Cobra Fakir, but as I haven't heared Avanti! I can't vote for it.

Both Morse and Muse were tough listenes, especially the latter (all their songs sounded the same to me, not a-Muse-d Wink).

So, my vote goes to one of my absolute favourite bands, TMV, with their definitive masterpiece, De-Loused in the Comatorium. Clap

Wow, strong competition in this group.
Moogy's test panel says: Mars Volta: energetic, radical, great!
Muse: first acquaintance with this well known band. Thumbs up.
Miriodor: didn't like them at first, but the longer I listened to them, the more I liked them.
But... I not in the anti-Morse camp. For me he's the strongest of the 4.
Vote for Neal Morse.

You should take the music aural, through the ears I mean, not the stomach
Sorry, couldn't help myself making a silly joke.
Morse's music is something you love or hate, I suppose

reason 1 why I had stayed away from it in the first place.. I guess I knew I would hate it. I really ..really dislike that sylistic branch of prog..and have met very few.. to any albums I've liked of it.

But it was only fair to give the album the benefit of the doubt. I am trying to listen to all of them that I haven't listened to before. At least I got the Flower Kings album out of the way years ago. Music sucked but at least ended up with a great set of drink coaster that make for great conversation pieces for when we have company over. LOL Expensive ones to be sure though Ouch Oh the dangers of prog exploration...Thumbs Up

Is for you Neal Morse, Transatlantic, Flower Kings all in the same category, I wonder? Just being curious...

pretty much.. toss in Spock's Beard as well..  I really don't like (loathe) retro symphonic prog... none of them IMO added anything new or interesting to something mined out back in the 70's.

I do understand your POV.
I was subscriber to a Dutch prog magazine, and some day, one of those free cd's they gave away, had music from Kaipa, The Tangent, Neal Morse, Dream Theater and some others and it occurred to me that all the bands seemed to be variations on one theme, whereas the 1970's classic bands like Yes, Genesis, Crimson, Van der Graaf etc. all sounded very different from each other.
I'm sure that that also was a reason why I turned a bit away from modern prog.

Once again, I'm grateful for the modern polls, surprised that prog is much more diverse these days than I expected.

I'm the same as micky, throw in Spocks Beard, I just don't connect with that stuff at all, I feel I'd be a huge IQ fan if they were just instrumental
