PERFECT BEINGS ANNOUNCED FOR ROSFEST 2016

In just over 9 months, the 2016 edition of ROSfest will take place at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg, PA. We're pleased to announce that the first band signed for next year's festival is US band Perfect Beings.

The seeds of the band Perfect Beings were sown in 2012, when composer and guitarist Johannes Luley approached singer/songwriter Ryan Hurtgen about the possibility of jointly creating a conceptual, progressive rock album. They subsequently began working on the creation of material for a good, old fashioned concept album. Joined by Chris Tristam (bass), Jesse Nason (keyboards) and Dicki Fliszar (drums), the new band recorded material and chose their name to be Perfect Beings. The band launched a self-titled album in 2014 to critical acclaim and what merits a description as a commercially successful reception from the progressive rock audience. The success of the album has also led them to be nominated for the "Limelight" award courtesy of the UK music magazine "Prog". Perfect Beings is currently wrapping up the financing and recording of their forthcoming second album, to be released in good time before ROSfest 2016 kicks off.

With their contemporary and accessible take on classic progressive rock, Perfect Beings is a band that has caught the interest of music lovers all across the spectrum, and have an appeal that stretches even beyond the classic progressive rock crowd. Their standing in progressive rock circles is high and rising higher, and we're convinced that this is a band that will go down a storm.

"Perfect Beings is a band that has piqued the interest of many of our regular guests, and we're very happy to be able to announce them as the first band confirmed for ROSfest 2016."

US band CIRCULINE announced for ROSfest 2016

We’re happy to announce the NY-based band Circuline has been added to the roster of ROSfest 2016. While a fairly new band, formed as late as 2014, all the members are seasoned veterans, many with a shared past in covers band Downing Grey. When that band folded, Circuline was born.

The members of Circuline create their own material, with one album released so far. Influences from the progressive rock giants of old draw comparisons to the general approach of bands such as Elephants of Scotland and Dream the Electric Sleep. Circuline’s incorporation of the quirkier, sophisticated elements used by the giants of yesteryear in a more subtle manner creates accessible music with a contemporary quality. When playing live, they are also known to occasionally include well-known cover songs, described by the band as “the progressive rock you hear on radio.” The members of Circuline are Andrew Colyer (keyboards, vocals), Bill Shannon (guitars, vocals), Billy Spillane (vocals), Darin Brannon (drums, percussion), Natalie Brown (vocals), and Paul Ranieri (bass, pedals).

“Circuline was one of the bands we had in reserve in 2015, who could step in if we needed a replacement. We’re happy to be able to book them for ROSfest 2016, and are certain that they will make quite the impression when they hit the stage."

Returning after 8 years

Electric Strawbs

‘Hero & Heroine Live’ – American Tour Spring 2016

We’re delighted to announce that UK legends the Electric Strawbs will be performing at RoSfest 2016 as the Friday night headliner.

A two-part evening of the Strawbs’ greatest hits, and a recreation of their classic 1974 album, “Hero And Heroine,” in its entirety.

Part of the ‘70’s British Progressive Rock Invasion of America, the Strawbs differed from their compatriots — the Moody Blues, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd — in one principle matter: the origin of their sound, English folk music rather than rock.

The band started in 1967 as a bluegrass-based trio called the Strawberry Hill Boys. It was led by singer/guitarist Dave Cousins, whom All Music Guide described as “the most talented Dylan influenced songwriter to come out of England.” That same year, the group — now rechristened the Strawbs, and doing repertory well beyond the bounds of bluegrass music — briefly became a quartet with the temporary addition of Sandy Denny. This incarnation of the band recorded a relative handful of tracks with the Hallmark label before Denny joined Fairport Convention. In 1969, the Strawbs were signed to A&M Records and cut their first album, the acoustic-textured ‘Strawbs,’ that same year.

However, their sound soon turned electric, augmented by an amazing array of keyboard players, including Rick Wakeman (prior to joining Yes), Blue Weaver, and John Hawken, scoring the band seven consecutive albums on the Billboad Top 200 chart in the USA. They’ve sold over three million albums worldwide, including ‘Bursting At The Seams,’ ‘Grave New World,’ and the beloved ‘Hero and Heroine,’ since their formation.

The exciting full line-up for the Strawbs’ 2016 tour will be announced soon, but the front line is as it was in 1974, with leader David Cousins (guitar & vocals), Dave Lambert (lead guitar & vocals), and Chas Cronk (bass & vocals).

This performance promises to be a remarkable evening spanning Progressive Rock and English Folk across the decades – do NOT miss out!

“We always strive to find superb headliners for RoSfest, and we literally jumped at the opportunity to book The Strawbs. We’re as eagerly anticipating watching these legends on stage as our audience is.”
- George Roldan

RoSfest announces 3RDegree as the Friday night after hours party band

One of the popular traditions of RoSfest is the after-party at the host hotel on Friday night of the festival.  We are pleased to announce that New Jersey-based band 3RDegree has been given the honor of entertaining us at the after-party in 2016. A band with a history going back to the 1990’s, with 5 full-length critically acclaimed studio albums to their name, they will bring quality song-centric prog and excellent entertainment to this much-anticipated party.

Regular guests at RoSfest are likely to know this band fairly well, as members of 3RDegree have been a regular presence for most editions of the festival. Their latest album “Ones & Zeros: Vol. 1″ was recently released on U.S. label 10t Records. The current line-up of the band consists of Pat Kliesch (guitars, vocals), George Dobbs (vocals, keyboards), Robert James Pashman (bass, keyboards, vocals), Aaron Nobel (drums), and Eric Pseja (guitars, vocals).

Play in tune. Sing in tune. Have a good time and show it.

Optional:
- Toss in something they know early on. Classics are generally well received if performed with heart and soul.

We're thrilled to announce US band NO MORE PAIN as the Sunday opener

New Jersey-based band No More Pain has been signed as the opening band on Sunday, in the slot that has been given the slightly tongue-in-cheek name The Church of Prog. The name references the fact that the concert takes place during church time, and is a concert that will be seen by the most dedicated in our prog congregation; therefore, we always fill this slot with something special as a reward for the truly committed who choose to attend.

No More Pain is a young and talented unit with two full-length albums that blend influences and inspirations from across the prog spectrum. With an easy touch many can envy, the band incorporates art pop, classic progressive rock, and harder-edged tendencies, including some progressive metal, into a finely developed and well-flavored brew. Elements of their sound will resonate with fans of Peter Gabriel, Kansas, Pink Floyd and Dream Theater. No More Pain's latest album "The Post Human Condition" was released in early 2015; band members include Mike Roman (guitars, vocals), Dan Rainone (drums, vocals), John Moroney (bass), and Matt McDermott (keyboards, vocals).

"No More Pain was an obvious choice for ROSfest 2016, as they continue our ongoing policy of securing spots for young, promising homegrown bands in the ROSfest line-up."

US band BENT KNEE announced as the second band on Sunday

Those of us with a deep affection for music all live for those moments when we experience a band that makes us think, "What the hell just happened there...I can't really wrap my head around this but man, I love it!" Cue Boston-based band Bent Knee, formed in 2011 with a line-up consisting of Courtney Swain (vocals, keyboards), Ben Levin (guitars), Vince Welch (sound design), Chris Baum (violin), Jessica Kion (bass), and Gavin Wallace-Ailsworth (drums).

Existing somewhere at the halfway point between Snarky Puppy and Sleeptyime Gorilla Museum, with a lead vocalist that could give Björk and Kate Bush a good run for their money, Bent Knee’s eclectic take on progressive rock will challenge, astound, and most often amaze. Avant-oriented progressive rock with a firm mainstream orientation, their musical form has a liberal but subtle flavoring of indie and alternative tossed in for good measure. They are definitely a band that expands the borders and boundaries of progressive rock in a vital and compelling manner. There's always a band at ROSfest that creates a strong buzz, and for 2016 we're pretty sure that the loudest buzz will swarm around this band.

"I went to a concert by chance earlier this year, saw this band and was gobsmacked. I knew then and there that I had to get them to ROSfest for 2016."
- George Roldan

The Dave Kerzner Band announced as third band on Saturday

We're delighted to announce that The Dave Kerzner Band will be the third band performing on Saturday at ROSfest 2016. A composer, producer, and musician, Dave Kerzner is best known in prog circles for co-writing and co-producing Sound of Contact's debut album Dimensionaut, which won the Limelight award in the 2013 edition of the Progressive Music Awards. He has also worked with Heather Findlay (Mostly Autumn) in UK band project Mantra Vega, as well as numerous major stars inside and outside of progressive rock circles including Steve Hackett, Francis Dunnery, Keith Emerson, Steven Wilson and more. Kerzner formed sound production company Sonic Reality in the 1990's, and his side project Sonic Elements revolves around the drums he's sampled with Neil Peart of Rush, Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, and more.

Kerzner launched his solo career in 2014 with the album "New World," a production that was met with acclaim from fans and professionals alike. The CD made it into the top 10 of Prog Magazine’s Reader’s Poll in 3 categories, and the composition "Stranded," featuring Steve Hackett (Genesis) and Durga McBroom (Pink Floyd), was nominated as a candidate for "Anthem of the Year" in the 2015 Progressive Music Awards.
The Dave Kerzner Band, consisting of Dave Kerzner (vocals, keyboards, guitars), Fernando Perdomo (guitars), Randy McStine (bass, guitars), Matt Dorsey (guitars, keyboards, bass), Derek Cintron (drums), Durga McBroom (vocals), and Lorelei McBroom (vocals), is a rising star in progressive rock circles composed of skilled artists who will see to it that this will be a memorable concert at ROSfest 2016.

"Kerzner is an artist that might well be heading for stardom in the progressive rock universe, and perhaps even beyond. Catch him now before he'll be a major player, as he may be out of reach for a festival such as ours soon!"

Norwegian band MAGIC PIE will open ROSfest 2016

We’re delighted to announce that Magic Pie will return to Gettysburg this year. This will be the band’s fourth ROSfest performance, and band members have even attended the festival as paying guests in the years following their last performance. These fine Norwegian proggers are dear and true friends of the festival, and it will be a pleasure to see them perform for us again. This is a headliner quality band, and among the most impressive festival opening bands we’ve ever had.

Their brand of heavy, symphonic progressive rock is reminiscent of bands such as The Flower Kings, albeit with a heavier edge bordering metal at times and arguably with a slightly more accessible sound. Following their headliner concert for us in 2010 the band has released two albums, “The Suffering Joy” in 2011 and “King for a Day” in 2015, both of which have strengthened their position as one of the leading progressive rock bands of today. Their first two CDs, “Motions of Desire” and “Circus of Life,” are widely regarded as contemporary classics. The current line-up of the band is Kim Stenberg (guitars, vocals), Eirikur Hauksson (vocals, guitars), Eirik Hanssen (guitars, vocals), Jan Torkild Johannessen (drums), Erling Henanger (keyboards, vocals) and Lars Petter Holstad (bass, vocals).

“Magic Pie is a band it seems our audience just cannot hear too often. They have been requested yearly, and for 2016 we found the time was right to book them again.”

We're thrilled to announce signing Scottish band COMEDY OF ERRORS for ROSfest 2016

We're thrilled to announce that Scottish veterans Comedy of Errors will be the third band out on Sunday at ROSfest 2016, bringing their heralded brand of neo-progressive rock to Gettysburg and the Rites of Spring Festival.

Formed in the wake of the first neo-progressive era in the UK, Comedy of Errors had a go in the second half of the 1980's but disbanded following three EP and demo releases. A couple decades later they reformed, and have since become a heralded band amongst neo-progressive audiences. The revitalized and rather more successful current incarnation of Comedy of Errors has three full-length productions, which the members refer to as “mini epic rock symphonies.” The latest of these productions is "Spirit," released in the fall of 2015.

The members of Comedy of Errors as of 2015 include Joe Cairney (vocals), Jim Johnston (keyboards), Bruce Levick (drums), Sam McCulloch (guitars), Mark Spalding (guitars), and John Fitzgerald (bass).

"Comedy of Errors has a growing reputation and is an increasingly popular band among those with an affection for neo-progressive rock. They are a natural candidate for ROSfest on those grounds, and we're thrilled to have booked them."

We're excited to announce Polish band RIVERSIDE as the Saturday night headliner

We're happy to announce that leading Polish progressive rock band Riverside will return to ROSfest in 2016 as the Saturday night headliner; they also headlined when they last played ROSfest in 2013.

The band will be celebrating their 15th anniversary in 2016. Since their debut album "Out of Myself" appeared in 2003, Riverside’s stature in both the world of music in general and progressive rock in particular has been steadily rising. Inside Out Music, to whom they have been signed for the last few years, released their latest album "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" in 2015, in which the band opts to explore a softer side of progressive rock. This production has been met with acclaim by fans and critics alike, some of whom have compared it to early 80's Pink Floyd.

Riverside is among the bands that have managed to develop their craft without too many line-up alterations occurring along the way. Piotr Grudzinski (guitar), Mariusz Duda (vocals, bass), Piotr Kozieradzki (drums, percussion) and Michal Lapaj (keyboards) have worked together since 2003, and form a seasoned live band that know what is expected of a headliner and have a reputation for fulfilling those expectations.

"There are a few bands out there with a strong reputation and a solid following that will always be considered as headliners if they are available. Riverside is one such band, and we're happy that they agreed to headline at ROSfest again in 2016."
