Wink

I presume the Wiki-How for enjoying sex involves putting on a little mood music like Gentle Giant, because it's "easy to get into." It also has a good beat and is easy to dance to.

Just think of Mr. Smooth turning down the lights, pouring some fine brandy, and putting on "The Power and the Glory."  LOL

I laughed for a couple minutes. Thank You! Clap

How to enjoy Progressive Rock in two easy steps.

1. Turn off that Genesis album

Apparently I've been doing it all wrong over the years.  According to this, before enjoying the music I have to understand all the complex genres and sub-genres.
They recommend to get into progressive rock you start out with Genesis - mainly the 80s songs.  (Were they prog? Oh wait, we've done that argument before).  I don't know whether to laugh or cry with this article, it seems so patronising. Progressive rock for dummies?

I'm trying to work out what sort of person sits down and thinks "I'm going to try getting into Progressive Rock. Let's look on the internet to find out how."

Oh and apparently drugs have nothing to do with it (see the end). Never thought they did, having been into it for 35 years and never taken anything stronger than alcohol Wink

Opinions?
I clicked on that link and closed it within seconds, this is exactly what is prog not supposed to be, it's supposed to be progressive, fun, exciting, thus not following any specific rules, it's for people who do not want sermons or to be preached upon, it's about clever individualism a wonderful listening experience full of layers that ever keep changing with every listen, also all sense grandiosity is believed to be just silly. Big smile

Also anyone putting down Genesis probably has not heard or appreciated early Genesis, what they meant/ did to prog moozik especially Gabriel era with Phil Collins on drums. Peter Gabriel first appearance in costume was wearing a red dress and a fox ontop of his head hahaha and his band had no idea up to the point of appearing on stage LOL
It's just like saying to me, that my fav grumpy Robert Fripp's version of Heroes is better than David Bowie's. Confused

Olav, this is actually really good! Except for the heavier metal droning the instrumentals are kept as they were originally. I like this version very much! Ha! Awesome! hahahahaha!!!! No idea of most what he is singing but it works! Big smileHug mhwoaaahhxxxxxx

They sing German version of the lyrics of Heroes. The vocalist is one of the guys in Rammstein, incidentally.

Du, könntest Du schwimmen
Wie Delphine, Delphine es tun

Niemand gibt uns eine Chance
Doch können wir siegen,
Für immer und immer

Und wir sind dann Helden
Für einen Tag

Ja...

Hehe, a gentler introduction than I had I suspect. I first came across Rammstein when listening to the soundtrack of Lost Highway (which also features a Bowie tune incidentally). The two Rammstein tracks on that soundtrack was Rammstein and, if I recall correctly, Heirate Mich.

The Bowie track on that soundtrack was I'm Deranged, just in case you wonder.

Listen to each album closely. Take note of the sections of each of the songs you choose to listen to.
  • Close your eyes and try to imagine the scenarios that the songs are crafting, the themes being explored and the meanings of the lyrics. Play these songs again and again to really take in what is going on, comparing each song as you do so. And if you can’t get into a certain track, try another.
  • Remember to start with shorter tracks – if you can’t get into the longer songs...

Oh for crying out loud, prog is about listening to (and appreciating) the album as a whole from start to finish, not flitting about here and there till you find something you like.

How to Enjoy Progressive Rock: You don't. Progressive Rock is not about enjoyment. You just pretend to know what you're talking about and hope that people will take you seriously.

I have on occasion described prog rock as music that you simultaneously endure and appreciate, in approximately equal measures.

Weirdly enough, that's more how I define extreme Free-Jazz-metal and a lot of No Wave
