Neither too. If I'd choose some 'scary' song from progressive classic, maybe something from Floyd should do (say One Of These Days or so).
Or anything from Devil Doll... (but it's not that classic as Yes or Genesis are) :-)
| Neither is remotley scary for me either. But I agree that (early) Floyd has some stuff that might do the trick, if we want to get something from the big ones. My choice would be Careful with that Axe Eugene... I prefer the live version, but for scary atmosphere the more subtle studio version may do the trick better. Also, my wife used to dislike Echoes because she felt the middle atmospheric section was rather scary... and she used to listen to some grunting metal bands back then. I guess perhaps ELP could have something to fit there too. Now, surely the more obscure things that have been sugested are scarier than anything I could come up with, but I'd like to add Il Balleto di Bronzo's "YS" to the list too.

No idea what you're talking about. Can music be scary? Maybe for some I guess. You'd have to be pretty jumpy to be scared by some notes...

If you want scary, try First Utterance.
(But don't really. It's f*****g horrible.) |
Good pick, wonderful album. |
It's a good job we don't share a house, or else one of us would murder the other!
More diametrically opposite musical tastes might be hard to find. |
Indeed | Are you talking about the wonderful Comus album?

I haven't heard that one, I'm afraid.

There is a point in The Ballad of Dwight Fry where Alice Cooper sounds insane enough to make the song scary. Neither of the songs in the poll are remotely scary.

It's a huge relief for all artists who specialize in evoking horror & all kinds of endless + sharp sufferings they're completely fascinated by – which they'll typically regret later because they'll have spent years in their lives focusing on things they don't enjoy and cannot change – that at least some people cannot content themselves with Yes or Genesis if they're looking for scary music.
Horror depressed artists would find it the more heartbreaking that happy positive people like Howe or Phillips should also be able to traumatize listeners.

I understand why The Knife is scary but I have no clue why SSOTS is

It's because you probably haven't ever witnessed real weapon sounds at your place. Would that have happened, the huge bombing sound at the beginning of SSOTS + Bruford rageing drums (that ressemble to fire shots) + Howe rageing guitars + Anderson stressing voice would achieve amplifying a trauma.
Another way to get frightened is to be so imaginative that even without being there, you'd feel very bad at sounds suggesting violence for similar reasons.
