The Divine Wings of Tragedy (1996) - Symphony X by far and by light years  for me, no competition here

Wow ... 2nd time the Carpenters have made it onto these hallowed pages in the last 24 hours. Why only yesterday, that supposed wild man of the jungle Micky professed his hidden passion. Of lord, what is to become of us. Barry Manilow ?

LOL  NEVER!!

Well, I listened to that Symphony X album...

Mr. LaCheese in disguise here. That really ugly vowels all over the place style of hair metal singing. Didn't make me think much tbh.

I remember once in a pub trivia game, one of those who am I questions, where the first clue was something to do with making my start writing advertising jingles. Without any concern for my own credibility I said Barry Manilow. Was a jug of beer worth it ? I fear not. Some things, it is better not to know. Embarrassed

Porcupine Tree, In Absentia.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

That's a curious criticism. Allen doesn't sound anything like LaBrie and I don't remember bad vowel modifications as such on that album, at least not of LaBrie level. If anything I think Allen under-expresses and sounds kind of cold and distant though not as much as Mr Roboto Wilson. LaBrie on the other hand overemotes to a degree that would make Mariah Carey blush.

Even Australians have limits beneath which they'd choose not to stoop. Tongue

Symphony X may be cheesy, but I find Divine Wings much more entertaining than In Absentia - an album whose appeal I never fully understood (as my review of it makes it quite clear).
