I completely miss what people like about that Renaissance album but then I never could for the most part get into concept albums. I remember playing it while the wife and I were doing some painting in the basement and she said "Really John?" which I completely agreed with 'cause it's so lame, so I explained I was listening to it in order to review it and I also borrowed it from someone 'cause I certainly wouldn't buy it. I did turn it off with pleasure though.
This should bring out the Folk/Symphonic fans, sorry Jazz people. 5 stars versus 2 or was it 3 stars?

I guess the 'concept' of most Renaissance mk ii albums is the same: a showcase of Annie Haslam's vocal talents. And Trip to the fair is about as 'musical' as they get. Strangely though, as a Canterbury fan I don't like Third all that much. Now if Scheherazade had been pitted against Rotter's Club or even Space Shanty, I wouldn't have to even think about the vote.

Canterbury fan too, liking Third definitely less than the more typical Canterbury albums like those of Hatfield, National Health and Khan. Still, I like Third a lot.
But Renaissance, it is like rogerthat says, the concept itself is not so important, voice of Annie and beautiful compositions are. Sheherazade maybe is their best studio album, and it is gorgeous, to use an American term

wow.. another one that tightened up quickly during lunch time... I had suspected this one would be really tight. It will be a damn hard decision for sure.

Vote for Sheherazaaaaaaaaaaaade
I understand the love for Annie and the band not to mention this album so while my tongue is firmly in my cheek with those comments the truth is i'm not a fan. I agree about Third as well as it's way more Jazz than Canterbury but for me it's a classic.

I quite like the Renaissance album, it's one of the two I have. Third is wonderful, despite the sound quality. I've never really thought of it as a Canterbury album.
