Damnation. It's somewhat different from their other albums. Much lighter, more melodic and no growls, although just as good as Blackwater Park, Still Life etc IMO.

Listen to it here..

I think it all depends on what side of Opeth you enjoy more, if you like the softer moments then I'd say Damnation, but if you're like me and love the mixture of both then I'd say Deliverance. They're both great albums though! Thumbs Up

Deliverance has more moments I count as epic.

I love damnation as an album... but the SONG Deliverance is EPIC to say the least.  And I am in no way a metal or death growl fan at all but the SONG Deliverance is timeless.

Honeslty, neither. IMO they are the two worst albums the band has ever put out.

Orchid, Still Life, Watershed, Ghost Reveries or Pale Communion would be a much better use of your money I think.
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

Damnation, not because i dont like the growled vocals, in fact, i think songs like The Moor or Ghost of Perdition are some of their best. Damnation has no weak song.

Deliverance, since you appear to enjoy the heavier side of Opeth more.

Delivernation.
ie get both. If Opeth had released them as a double album it would have made sense as they were recorded together.

I think their instrumentation is awesome but the growling crap just ruins it. So, I suggest Pale Communion since he actually sings on that one and it is a bit more towards the symphonic prog side of things.

Damnation is the only Opeth album I don't like.  Deliverance is ok.
