It becomes w**kery when you assume you're always right.   Other than that, I say w**k away.

it is a talent some have man.. some people merely suggest albums in thread.. some feel the need to make a show.. a grand production of it complete with fools, jugglers, half naked women, half naked men, barn animals and torture devices.

It doesn't.

When a newcomer posts something like:

I love 70's prog such as Camel, Jethro Tull and Genesis and now I need some more recommendations - And members starts posting their lists of favorite obscurities without caring if many of those are mainly extreme metal, avant-garde, abstract electronics or any other suggestion more likely to work as a total turnoff.

In my head: Dunno -> depends on the person recommending -> crystal ball -> your gut will tell you -> I'm out of clues.

A strange question indeed.

Gotta agree, misses the point of answering a question; it's about them, not us.

Sticky topic....w**kery begins where the music ends.  When it goes beyond what's in the grooves and gets into personal politics.  "I like this album and here's why you should check it out" is always welcome, but "Here's an outpouring of myself masked in a music review" sometimes goes too far.  I know a good review within the first few lines - tone and perspective plus knowledge of the music....and I thank all the gems on this site for all the w**kery.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....
