At this time, I am enjoying a nice ensemble starring Steve Roach, Jorge Reyes, and Suso Saiz, called "Earth Island". This group of highly talented and extraterrestrial individuals calls themselves Suspended Memories and released this work in 1994, in the middle of an era when ambient music was playing everywhere. The sound of those bands was groovy and easy to digest. For those who wanted the easy food, groups like Thievery Corporation and St. Germain were ready for the picking. But if you were an old nose and were looking for something deeper, something scarier, something heavier, the boys in the bands we used to know and love were still putting it out there. "Earth Island" is richly evocative and mysterious; it beckons from a place deep within those of us who have not forgotten what this Ambient Thing was all about. If you haven't given it a whirl, check it out. If you don't sleep for awhile after grooving on this, then it just might be your cup of tea after all...
