I'm new here. Was that the boards first "prog post?"

As for Radiohead, I have no idea how they ever got labeled prog since they don't sound like that at all to me. Not really like Floyd either. I'm not big on them but they're almost their own category.

That would be correct....a set that is expanding slowly and contains at least 1000 group recordings...

I don't think you're right about this. RYM for example lists every Radiohead makes the top 200 with 2 in the top 10 albums of all time whereas Wilson only has one that hits the top 5000.

In the prog world that may be different but only because Wilson is prog and Radiohead is not.

Well going by my own set of ears I think that it does sound pretty darn good. Not the best ever but good.

It is an incredible piece of work, one that stands the test of time, and will continue to do so for many years.

Criteria don't matter for true fans. But that's not really the point. Radiohead remains one of the most popular bands of all time and even their last album proved to be immensely successful. So the short answer is: nothing happened. Radiohead remains just as popular as they did ten years ago.

Radiohead is a good band, but talkinghead is genius.

I have the recording in my CD collection. I bought it because a few peeps on this site were saying it was genius. If I recall it seemed to.me like an average 80s electro pop release. I may be mistaken, perhaps I missed the cut of its cloth. However, popularity is no recommendation of quality. A lot of people rate DSOTM but apart from being very well produced. I only think one track is actually worth listening to. Any colour...

I listened last night. While my wife did some shopping. I was wrong about electro pop. But laughably I was reading those reviews that claimed it wasnt derivative like the prog bands of the nineties. It is stolen from a mixture of early seventies Bowie with a bit of post Genesis Gabriel, Eno and Budgie mixed with sixties psychedelia. Nothing new or ground breakimg to my ears...

The album was good enough in order to make Rick Wakeman stop and notice it. That's good enough praise for me.
