Can anyone recommend any of their albums? And any to avoid?

None to avoid from what I have. Kudos to the 2nd album, 'Psychonaut'.
Cottonwood Hill is also a primo listen.

I'd start chronologically, see how they evolve. None of their early material you want to miss, so just go the easy route and learn it all.

I rather like Adventure and Voyage. Just the right blend of psych with a more conventionally "prog" sound.

The debut Cottonwood Hill is a great album but might be not a good place to start from because it's very repetitive, most of the album is one riff going on and on with all kinds of noises and other goodies on top of it, it took me a long time to open up to it but now I like it very much.

I'd suggest first to go for the second album Psychonaut, great psychedelic prog on this one! Celestial Ocean is also a good album but nothing's too exciting.

The first 3 are all pretty good....but I prefer Celestial Ocean.

Egyptian kings is so good than the rest of C.O suffers a little of the quality of that first song.

^My thoughts exactly. That tune is killer! The rest ofte album pretty good too but doesn't reach EK to it's ankles imo.

Celestial Ocean is good, but earlier albums which are often praised on this site are complete noise and the vocals are painful. Some of their music is not far from being horrible....like Captain Beyond, Greenslade, or the first Rare Bird album. The most horrible music I've ever heard with pounding choppy organ and someone that really can't sing. Like having a day where you are subjected to sequencing, drum machines,..(poof, poof), and some awful Rap. To me it's just as bad. Early Brainticket is painful

Hi,

All three albums are worth having for the serious collector or experimental and progressive music.

Looking at it all, today, some of it sounds dated, and not exactly accurate, the words in Celestial Ocean being an example, but it gives you an idea of how romantic the whole scene was at the time, and as such the albums live really well, and still sound great. Cottonwood Hill is a bit different, but if you want to learn something funny and interesting about it, you really should talk to your girlfriend, about its vocals and words, and lines. Gives a different meaning to "real", and "reality", although a lady that I knew also jokes in the middle of it by saying that "us guys really think that all girls are that lost during sex!".

Gives the meaning of the album a completely different twist!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Once again it's interesting how tastes vary with prog fans.
I think the first Captain Beyond, and the first 3 Greenslades , especially Bedside Manners which is one of my favorite keyboard Brit prog albums , and Rare Bird are all good albums and enjoyable.

The latest Brainticket s a must-have.

All tracks work except the second from the last which is a long (too long) story on Egyptian gods and all that.
