Kill Your Idols is the name of a book in which people are allowed to take a crack at some of their hero's most overrated albums. I have a slightly different idea. I just want  to vent on some of my hero's more annoying habits or other smaller things that stick in your craw. For me, it's Geddy's high shrill wailing on the earlier Rush albums. What are some of your pet peeves concerning your favorite artists?

I've always been a little put off by the trebly sound of Steve Howe's guitar. I love his playing but I wish he had a thicker sound more like Hacket et al.

Omar and Cedric kicking out AMAZING important members of their band. Most specifically Ikey and Adrian Gonzalez. They get a pass on Jon Theodore because they have some cool sh*t going with all their drummers and TP was best for Bedlam.

Tim Smith having a stupid stroke... damn it. :'( :'(

I agree on Geddy's hilarious voice but that's what makes Rush more of a "fun" band.

Most of the death metal bands I listen to not incorporating odd instruments into their music.

Thinking Plague not releasing albums all the time.

Thomas Erak from the Fall of Troy trying to pretend he's actually an amazing melodic vocalist on their last album. He sounded awesome on Phantom but after that he went downhill...

Dave Kerman not continuing to make music with Bob Drake... damn it.

Koenjihyyakkei replacing their guitarist with wind instead of just adding a wind instrumentalist. (Though i still love angherr Shispa)

Not being able to have a conversation with Robert Fripp

Carla leaving Sleepytime and forcing them to make Free Salamander Exhibit but that will have them missing the feminine element in the music which I doubt will be equally amazing.

Trey Sprunace and Mike Patton being dicks to each other even though Trey seems like such an amazingly nice guy when I have spoken with him before.

Toby Driver and Greg Massi not continuing to work together... because I love the kind of force those guys are together. Just saw them perform Choirs of the Eye and you can really tell they are great together.

I'm very put off at how Steven Wilson does this whole retro prog thing while speaking out against it, acts like he's doing this entirely new and amazing thing when his music isn't even weird.

Dream Theater keeping James LaBrie as their vocalist all the time... damn it pls stop guys... I love you but I don't.

Muse continuing to inch further and further away from their bombastic and epic sound into commercially accessible music.

Hey, Kill Yr Idols! Love that SY EP.

Oh, wait, now I see...

Well, I'm upset with SWilson's slow disengagement from forward thinking prog towards retro prog, but even more so with that new headpaint album, where he both fails at making good retro/xover prog and completely pulled a fast one in regards to promised new directions. It was easy to forgive him for The Incident's middling quality and similar messing up of a concept, but he doesn't show signs of making up for this tormato anytime soon.

My love for Jon Anderson is a bit muted because of that hackjob of an attempt at spiritual lyrics on Tales.

I've always rolled my eyes at Greg Ginn's behaviour. Such a great punk guitarist and bandleader... and such an asshat.

Speaking of which, don't get me started on Euronymous and Varg Vikernes, I mean my god...

His tales about his dad are no reason for me to take a crack at him. Far more sickening is the poppycock he talks about Israel and Palestines. It seems that he has attended some guided tour which took him to the wrong side of the Anzio bridgehead.

Then you wouldn't know, be he a bore, a boar or something else. Once he was a guy I could not hear an evil word about.

The originator of this thread is a bore AND something else. I like boars.

Robert Fripp annoyed the hell out of me when he broke up the King Crimson LTIA band in the 1970s!   However, his subsequent versions have taken some of the sting out.

I've got to go with smuph's criticism of Labrie from DT. His bland vanilla vocals take all the fury out of their most intense epics. I can easily see him as a second rate lounge singer in some summer resort spot in upstate NY.

Would be nice to see Fripp loosen up once in a while.  Guess he can afford to be human occasionally.

Wish Banks would not drown out Hackett and would be more open to a bit of improv.

A little bit of vibrato please, Jon Anderson!

Derek Shulman sure could use a smile.  Seems to have a perennial scowl in the concert videos.

-I wish Carl Palmer would put an effort into creating some original music and stop the mini tours of rehashed tracks.
-Same for Steve Hackett, we get it, you were in Genesis, put it bed and focus on new music, Wolfbreath was fair at best, get back to the Darktown days
-Greg Lake, do something, anything, you're supposed to be this incredible song writer, so when are you going put something new out? You've got a studio, use it!
-Bill Bruford, we all want to retire, but you've got too much talent not to let us share in it. Put a Jazz trio together and get to it. I'm thinking Emerson on Hammond and Howe on Guitar
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

It's amusing to me that Rush fans complain about Geddy's voice. Without that voice it's not Rush.

My peeve is that the more Neil Peart talks, the less I like him. I'm talking about his views on politics, life, and society. I need to keep the man separate from his music

^Ha ha, seems like a bit of spray got on you. I don't highjack threads for the purpose of insulting members. That's something that you and Rednight will never comprehend as you do it quite often. That doesn't mean that I'll let people like you insult me without giving you the response that you deserve. You reap what you sow, so goes the old saying. And stay upstream of the wind.

Yes, all of our heroes are perfect. I forgot. What high school claptrap.
