There were a few sections within those two epics that I sort of enjoyed, but they get lost within the mess that the bigger songs are.

I do always recommend taking the album in conjunction with Raff's review of it.  The 'mess' is my mind part of the context of the album... it is Naples man.. there is no city on earth quite so chaotic and messy.. yet so full of passiion, and life. The album reflects that..

clappies for the thoughts.. ClapClap

nice to know that while I obviously think Palepoli is a FAR superior album .. it is nice to read, rare as it might happen, why some albums don't connect.

Yeah well, just as I mentioned on a Syd Barrett thread a little while ago, I don't really care about the circumstances of a recording, whether if the man was in a very fragile state of mind when he wrote his albums (Syd), or if the band is doing a reflection of the place they live in a very brilliant way (Osanna, according to your post). What makes me apreciate an album is if I like the music or not. I might get a bit of admiration for whatever other curious data about the recording or whatever, but in the end that won't make me enjoy the music more.

Osanna, easy one for me.  Love RPI and not much of a VDGG fan.

Van der Graaf Generator, Pawn Hearts.

Master James of St. George.
Of the fields and the sky.
He used to build castles of stone, steel, and blood.
But lines get broken down.

Useless vote for Osanna. Hard to get people to stop voting for the name.
