Next up since Quaterfinal #3 is not decided yet...  Quarterfinal #4.  On paper the best matchup of the Classics and perhaps of all the Quarterfinals. Two giants.. two heavyweights.. two fabulous albums. Unfortunately 1 is english.. the other not. Will that decide it? We shall see

just like other rounds.. would have been a much harder vote with Three Friends or Acquiring the Taste. Those had a beauty Octopus doesn't.. and one Storia di Minuto has in spades.  Oh and it still kicked a bunch of ass as well.  Enough to fracture my hand once playing air drums..

PFM baby...

According to my ears Storia is perfect from start to finish while Octopus isn't (Its highs are breathtaking though).

I guess Octopus is more ambitious... yes, going with Octopus.

Storia's lyrics are terrible and vocals are lightweight in the extreme and it's not yet entirely its own thing in the way that subsequent PFM albums were. Compared with Giant's most daring project lyrically and vocally, I don't think it stands up. And Giant are way ahead on musicianship and composition at this point, imho. Not to knock Storia, it's a good album, but I don't think it matches up to the real heavyweights.

Not really a fan of either, but I think Storia de un Minuto is more pleasant.

Oh its a funny old world isn't it ? I began this poll nonsense muttering how GG were one of those bands that were massively overrated. Last round I was directed to check out some of their other stuff which I've had to admit I am quite enjoying. Now I'm onto side two of Octopus and yep, really liking it, more so perhaps than some of those kind souls who sent me off to their other stuff, notably Acquiring and Friends, give it credit for. Shoot. Shoot. Shoot. Never did get the hang of activating brain before opening mouth.

Don't know that they are yet up to knocking out Storia as that has long been a favourite but its going to be closer than I would have thought.

They are? I'm thankful to simply hear beautiful words in a language I don't understand - and what's wrong with the vocals?

Italian lyrics translated in English generally sound terrible (which is true for a lot of translations), and Mogol (the author of said lyrics, and Italy's foremost pop lyricist for quite a long time) could often be cheesy. Other RPI bands had far better lyrics than the ones on Storia (Banco and Jumbo come to mind). That being said, I don't listen to prog because of the lyrics. If I like them, it's a bonus, but if I don't, there's still the music - and I happen to be a big fan of instrumental music.
