I love this album, so many good songs, and so much melody, texture, harmonies, great rythem section, magical mellotron work, faboulus vocal and backing vocal preformances, wonderfull instrumentation.
my favourite track is 1. Hung Up on a Dream 2. Brief Candles 3. A Rose for Emily 4. Care of Cell 44 5. Butchers Tale, 6. Changes

I never considered it to be one, just a lovely bunch of baroque rock songs. But I could be wrong.

A really nice album from the old days....Time of the Season for me but they are all good.
The Zombies are touring now and doing the whole album live. I hope to see them in October.

I've always taken the album as a whole - every track meshes so well that it seems like one movement even though each song has its own identity. Excellent album - don't you just wish that Russ had invited Colin to write and sing on the first Argent album.

Never noticed the misspelling in the album title before -

Hung Up on a Dream, a truly majestic track with great use of mellotron. A very consistent album all the way through. I think Schoolgirl off the first Argent album is the equal of anything on Odessey. In fact if that album had been done under the Zombies name it would probably get a lot more raved about.

I assume with a name like Cactus Choir you must be an Argent fan....what's your favorite Argent album? |

Well the moniker actually comes from a Dave Greenslade solo album(!) but I am an Argent fan as well. I like all the albums up to Nexus, but I'd go for the debut as my favourite (probably because of the Zombies influence and consistently good songs) followed by Ring of Hands. Argent were a slightly schizophrenic band really, with Russ Ballard writing more pop/rock-oriented material while Rod Argent veered towards prog and jazz rock. I'm not voting. Too many equally great tunes:
"A Rose for Emily" "Beechwood Park" "Hung Up on a Dream" "Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914)" "Time of the Season" ... Well, I might vote for an underdog (if there's gonna be one). P.S.: Can't vote against "Time Of The Season" just because of overplay on radio and in movies.
