I return to you, my sweet Prog Archives.

I return to you with a slight change to my previous recommendation thread. Before i would go back and forth between "classic" and more contemporary suggestions.
I noticed that many of my successes were in the modern recommendations, not my surprise - that's the music i prefer and know more.

So after a while I decided to give it another go.
I'll be giving you all more modern prog/progressive music suggestions, features, and so on. I hope they generate some interest.

Hope you enjoy. This song has massive dynamics, simple yet very moving lyrics, and tons of recurring sections and repetition to emphasize the emotion of the song.

Some of the best indie prog I've ever heard. Very beautiful and powerful.

Quite an interesting song, with its mix of heaviness and catchy hooks. The final section almost sounds like a post-rock version of the Beach Boys.

That awkward moment when you forget about your own thread... Oopps.

I'll provide two songs this time to try make up for my silliness.

First up is Melt Yourself Down. Not really prog, but more just interestingly awesome. Gritty funk music with some international flair.

To constant here is some straight-up neo/symphonic rock. Izz is one of the few bands of those genres that actually click with me on a consistent basis. They don't come off as super cheesy with their presentation, and have a completely nasty rhythm section. Crush of Night is probably my favorite from them so here is a song with some great instrumentation and a wonderfully executed acoustic section.

Nice to see Shels mentioned Austin. I love that album. Bought it a couple of summers ago and now I can't listen to it without smelling coconuts and sweating profusely.

I liked the first track a whole lot, with its Middle Eastern influences and infectious, funky rhythms. As to IZZ, I find them an excellent live band, but not as effective on CD. The track you chose is great until the vocals kick in, diluting the atmosphere created by the instrumental interplay.

Thanks for posting the first video, interesting,

Haven't heard IZZ live (even tried timing one of my NY trips when they were playing) but I do enjoy their studio recordings. The song below is one of my favourites from their 2009 album, the second part of the song is brilliant.

Of those posted I liked the IZZ tracks......some very good eclectic and symph style prog there.

Here is two more tracks you guys. This time I wanted to focus on some of the "heavier" music I listen to.

Love the musicianship here. Drums are real slick and tasteful, reminds me of the brilliant Gavin Harrison in some parts. Bass has a great tone that peaks out but isn't too obnoxious, and the use of guitar distortion really is great. While these guys do dabble in heavier vocals on rare occasion, i love the droney vocals.

Giant Squid is a quirky metal band. Having a cellist as a main part of their line-up and throwing in some other interesting genres, they have a unique style and atmosphere to their songs.

Yea she is, though Graceon never appealed to me. Soemthing doesn't click, though i'm picky with my heavy/metal music more than any other genre.

This one sounds good, eventhough to my ears it revolves around the same emotion all the way through..
