Which do prefer as the vocalist for Marillion? Original vocalist Fish or long time replacement Hogarth?

They're both brilliant in their own way. Different, but equally great.

Not really sure. I have heard little Hogarth era Marillion. Though on Sounds that can't be Made, Hogarth was a really pleasant singer, while Fish can be annoying... he has the same kind of quality to his singing that doesn't allow me to like Gabriel as a singer... still, in the end I do love Fish era Marillion songs, and I guess the same quality that bothers me from his singing is the very same that makes those songs absolutley his, and wouln't really sound well with someone else... or at least I can't imagine it easily... so in the end I guess I cannot dare to vote... yet at least.

Fish.

Hogarth's Marillion Era has been  very different in musical style in comparison to Fish's Marillion Era. I lost interest in Marillion's new music after I bought their "Holidays in Eden" album in 1992. In some bands the change of lead singer really brings a lot of changes in the music and in the sound of  the bands. That happened with Marillion, I think.

But I also think that Fish could not last as their lead singer for more time. They recorded with him some very good albums, but in the end it seems that he always wanted to be a soloist anyway. "Clutching at Straws" is very good musically, but the lyrics are very personal and maybe not something that the band wanted for another album with Fish. Marillion was good for my taste in the late eighties, but it did not last for a very long time. But I sometimes listen to their albums, including "Seasons End", which I also like.

I can take or leave either TBH. Both unremarkable singers. I'll vote for Fish as he was an entertaining character for a while, and did pull prog rock screaming into the maninstream for a few years.

There were better neo-bands though IMO. Hogarth era Marillion to me is a bit ...

Both are great, marking two eras in Marillion's sound. Fish would get my vote, but is a close call.

I hold nothing against Hogarth since he is a very good vocalist but Fish is in another league altogether.

Neither had ever really made any impression on me until I heard Marillion's "Unplugged at the Walls". Hogarth I thought was pretty impressive on an album that changed my thinking re the band in general.

I voted both. I know it's a cop-out, but I really really like both. If you told me I had to be banished to a desert island and could only keep my 80's marillion or 90's marillion, I wouldn't be able choose.... Ermm
