Talk Talk by default. It's a good album, though not brilliant.
I do like some of The Who's stuff (not much) but Quadrophenia (and Tommy) leave me completely cold.

Quad for me, seen the live show too. I've always intended to get into Talk Talk, so I suppose 'Spirit of Eden' is a good place to start!

Talk Talk leaves me cold cold. Quadrophenia is The Who at their best.

I love both of these albums equally. You can really hear how much thought and effort and emotion went into these recordings.
They are extremely different but in some ways the same I guess. About a search for a deeper meaning, or finding modern life unfulfilling? With the Talk Talk album, the lyrics and the music are more abstract. But I think the basic sentiment is similar. So glad that there are people who make art like these albums instead of the typical phony top 40 Hollywood bullsh*t that saturates our society. So good to hear something that has real emotion put into it instead of the sh*t that our mass media culture spews out. A respite from the tidal wave of vomit from the mouth of consumerism. For me, music like these two albums is a refuge and one of the few things that makes life worth living.

![]() However, both albums were / are Art Rock (though from two very different decades) and never prog. Oh and there are two instrumentals that are the prog tracks at Quad, and Doctor Jimmy is prog too. Well, it's first half of 70s and prog was something the most fashionable back then. On the other side, Spirit of Eden, as an Art Rock /Ambient album that was in a perfect harmony with 80s aesthetic of art rock, had nothing to do with Prog - except maybe that influence of 70s Ambient music; in fact, 70s Ambient music was widely accepted by prog fans, long before internet, as a sub-genre of Prog. And if I'v been informed well, Ambient was here among the others PA genres, and it was a perfect place for THE artists like Brian Eno (now in "Progressive electronic" section what at PA means that Berlin School of electronic music and what have nothing to do with Brian Eno's 70s ambiental works), but Ambient was expelled from PA together with Art Rock section; I presume by the same creators (and their forum's "lawyers") of artificial genres like "eclectic prog", "prog related", "crossover prog" and "proto-prog", what could be useful, because PA don't have multiply tags, to describe some of the classic era bigs with more eclectic catalogues (e.g. Deep Purple, King Crimson, Family, ELO) and also for many of the contemporary prog bands and solo artists who builded their stuff in extremely hybrid way, like a palimpsest painting, but not for the classic Art Rock acts nor for the classic Art Rock masterpieces from late 60s, 70s and 80s like Quadrophenia and Spirit of Eden - they both should be in the PA Art Rock section if that section exists as it was a big mistake to reject Art Rock section what made a huge damage for the site and the genre, or - not be in the Prog Archives.
