I understand those who don't have a favorite. Sometimes I'm listening to Genesis and think they're the best thing ever, sometimes Yes, sometimes Queen, sometimes Kansas. But if I have to pick it's always been Floyd, they have a style that's very different to everything else.

^ most people, if their backs are to the wall, will be able to name the one band they can't do without. I have days when I only want to hear Genesis, or can't stop listening to WWYH, and I've been on a Led Zeppelin kick for a few weeks now. But in the end, it always comes down to Yes.

I don't have a favourite band - I have 'favourites'.
One of em is Franco Battiato. The problem with him is that he has gone through so many styles and approaches that one word simply isn't enough.
First 4 albums of his though = 'larval'

I go on crazy binges of different artists. Currently got into heavy Kraut lately and if I wanted to throw on one disc right now, it would be Tanz Der Lemminge. But nothing will ever top the almighty Floyd for me.
