In the opinion of a significant minority, Renaissance peaked in 1978 with their at times bombastic at times folkie "A Song for All Seasons".  Even among the majority, the prevailing view is that it was a very good album not quite up to the standards set a few years earlier.  In recent polls, Renaissance steamrolled the Yes and the ELP entry from 1978, and narrowly defeated Gentle Giant's and Genesis' 1978 albums.  Let's see how they fare against the entry by Jethro Tull.  Anybody think "Heavy Horses" was their best, or close to their best, good, or mediocre but still better than Renaissance?  Vote and comment on!

Heavy Horses, and it's not even close.

Heavy Horses. I don't think "A Song for All Seasons" win this poll (as lats poll). I try to find (in my mind) another J.T album that lose this poll against ASFAS. EmmmErmm Confused

This will need some thought.

I really like both.

Regardless of the landslide I had to vote for JT.

I had the feeling it would be a decisive win for JT, although not by this much, as HH is a very good album that is part of the rejuvenation of Tull after a couple of sub-par mid 70s albums.  Anderson was inspired by the works of Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span (for whom he produced an album in 1974), maybe Horslips as well, to produce an album that went beyond what those bands had done.  Still, ASFAS is a top 20 disk for me and HH is marred by one lengthy track that I really dislike, and a few just ok tracks, so ASFAS it is.

I love Heavy Horses. Not very prog like TAAB or APP (or even Aqualung), but brilliant nonetheless.

Never really liked Heavy Horses. Overall, I am not so fond of JT as I used to be, except Aqualung and Songs from the Wood.  I should check again but HH is the point where Anderson starts sounding a bit croaky.  Here's another vote for SFAS in a poll which is sure to be swept by JT.

Ouch, Heay Horses just... you know... Iron-clad feather-feet crushing Renaissance. LOL

Yes, as much as l love Renaissance, this one is no contest. Heavy Horses is by far the best album of the two.

Heavy Horses is my favorite album from one of my favorite bands whereas A Song is a good album from one of my other favorite bands.  I am with the majority in regarding A Song as below par (and a very high par at that).

Moths might possibly be the finest track Tull ever released but, after much thought, I'm going with Renaissance. There are no highlights quite as stellar as Moths, but there's nothing on it I don't like a lot.

And No Lullaby is not to my taste.

'Horses is a lot of horse s'. One of the most overrated albums in history and what a snore. For that reason, I have to go with the underachieving 1978 Renaissance.
