2, 3, 4. The very first one is good too, but the poll asks for three choices only. The music is great in spite of the terrible recording quality; terrible production. I find their later jazz albums, like 7 in particular, very dull and uninspired. Soft Heap is good, though.

The BBC sessions are an interesting one as they contain the only material put down by the short-lived 7-piece line up (that had been pared down to the 4-piece by the time 'Third' was recorded - apart from Lyn Dobson's contribution to Facelift).   That album 67-70 contains some of the best 'studio' work by the Softs, which introduced it to me when I bought 'Triple Echo' when it came out in 77.

Thanks for voting! (And voting again and again)
I've just realised I've forgotten to include "Spaced" and maybe this is just as well, but I've forgotten to include "Rubber Riff". DeadDeadDeadDeadDead

I have just listened to 'Slightly All the Time etc.' from the BBC Sessions - it is wonderful, wonderful stuff even 38 years on from when I first heard it as a 15 year old!

*almost sets fire to abacus with the speed

So you first heard it as part of the "Triple Echo" compilation? And yeah, it's a really beautiful piece of music.
The only thing wrong with it is the tracklisting on "The Peel Sessions" make it seems like three different tracks you can listen to separately, as opposed to the continuous blast it is.

I've really fallen hard for their first. Is it the best. Nah, probably not. I love listening to it though. I think We did it again was my track of the week last week, I had that CD in my pickup and I was terrorizing pedestrians and other vehicles all week as I be-bopped down the road with air drums a playing.

I was a late comer to the Softs, as far as really digging them, but that really only extends to the first 4.  Still really not a fan of their later stuff.

If I'd heard what you were listening to I would have joined in! I really think that should have been a single. I know singles are not what Prog is known for, and there is a chance it would have caused more problems and probably sped up the collapse of the band so they never had the career they had.
But in my world, "We Did It Again" was a big UK hit and every 60's compilation has it playing after "A Whiter Shade Of Pale". Much to the horror and confusion of the people who listened to 60's compilations!

"Oh right... I forgot that band existed..."

And yeah, in full accordance over the drumming on that track. It starts off following it and keeping the track intact before basically going off on one in the last minute.

That's right - part of the fun was trying to figure out when one piece ended and the other began.
