quite simple: because there are people who buy whole contingents of tickets just for the purpose of selling them at higher prices, so you can't get tickets from the authorized sellers anymore

That has always infuriated me, resellers buying large blocks of tickets from the likes of Ticketmaster and other retailers. It happens here all the time, or at least it did when such things really mattered to me. I don't go to concerts like I used to.

Not long ago Jeff Beck played a smaller venue here in L.A. The tickets were $75 but sold out in a few hours. That same day they were on the internet for $200 to $300.
