Oh No!!!! My two favorite heavy rock bands. I know it's about the albums, not the bands, but this is a choice l haven't been able to make for the last 40 years.

Deep Purple Mk 1 is my kind of Deep Purple. The first three albums of theirs, along with the live Symphonic thang, are without a doubt my favourites.

Even though early Deep Purple is all I cared for I still had to vote Uriah Heep.
I was at a very disappointing DP concert in the seventies (yes, the Smoke On The Water tour) but it didn't matter because I had already moved on from the band.

I do recall the album with Tommy Bolin being pretty good.
I'll have to throw it on sometime.

Heep for me.....though at times both bands are hit or miss imo.
Blackmore was a great guitarist back then and they had a way of writing  some good one off tunes and some really mediocre ones.
The Heep had this strange prog rock thing going on among their hard rock songs so I found them a bit more entertaining.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

The band name based on the Dickens character.

Early Uriah Heep with David Byron and Ken Hensley, the albums released with those two, I play more compared to any Deep Purple.

Only that heavy prog masterpiece In Rock is actually better than early Uriah Heep's albums.

The Heep debut is better than Purple's
