Well, first of all I'm a "Classically" trained musician (piano lessons at 8 years old, (later Flute & Oboe), band, orchestra, solo recitals, the Bachelor's degree, etc.), the whole stereotype (or stigma) that sort of goes with 'Classical Music." - I can't say I was always "happy" about those experiences with all the rigors, discipline, and time invested to master it - Along this classical music journey I discovered that its all relative to everything in life. Although my life revolved around Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner, etc., its all the same -
So, to best answer your question (or try to); No, I don't think classical music is necessarily just for those that are already happy, or because of it, or choose to listen to it - because it goes into the area of something "too subjective" to generalize -
Meantime, I was also listening to rock music, Beatles, Moody Blues, Genesis, Pink Floyd, etc. And sometimes I also needed that power & aggression to "enthuse" me, or to inspire me to start the day with a Led Zeppelin song, or The Who, or Genesis, or whoever - It works both ways because its all music just the same...

Profound, epic, joyful, dark, energetic, melancholy, spiritual, powerfully glorious, enlightening, solemn, just every sorts of strong emotions, encapsulated in even one only composition - this is the magic of Classical Music.

nah... nothing to do with happiness. Music isn't so one dimensional. Music is about tickling your emotions and touching your heart and soul. Sometimes it takes you to good places.. sometimes not. It is the journey that matters really.. not the destination. Nothing, not even prog rock, does that like classical does.

I love Classical Music to no end; there is a whole wide range of emotional reactions I have to it, depending on the composer/work/interpreter. It is a profoundly enriching experience being at one with such music!
