Pascal van den DOOL (me) is a solo artist who began composing orchestral pieces in the beginning of 2014. First some loose pieces and then two albums.

Still influence is orchestral music. After a while, gaining experience, he discovered prog via Pink Floyd, which has since then been an all-time influence. He began to make something similar with his album "Space" (in july, 2015). Pascal van den DOOL tried to make an album which is more his own style after that. This album, "City Between Two Seas", contains lyrics for the first time and is more played all by himself. This album has also more classical influences and is released the 8th of january, 2016.

Listened to your latest album on bandcamp, and enjoyed it tremendously. Beautiful, melodic, well-composed orchestral sounding music...with some lush keys - but I'm not really hearing it as Symphonic Prog as I think it is usually interpreted here on PA (could be wrong though, and often am Embarrassed

). I don't feel there is quite sufficient overall complexity or rock content to satisfy that particular team, but I do believe your music belongs on the site. Someone more knowledgeable than myself will be along to comment in due course, but my initial feeling is that this will ultimately be a case for the Crossover team. Hints of Mike Oldfield & Vangelis here and there (as well as the Floyd), and the vocals remind me of Lou Reed to certain extent. Good stuff! Thumbs Up

Hello and Welcome to PA forum.

Its normal! in Suggestions section specially when you write "Crossover" in Post title! You wrote Symph/Crossover together and this is not good for teams. Which team must check it ?! I think you must change Symph/Crossover to "Symphonic Prog" (I don't hear your music yet). Perhaps Symphonic team's members reply to your post sooner than Crossover team members. Wink

Hi Pascal, heard your album, I don't believe it fits in Symphonic.

Reminds me of Alan Parsons Project second album with hints of Vangelis peculiar brand of electronic space rock, but lighter.

I liked it, but I don't believe the Space Rock Team will accept aither.

My opinion is Crossover.

As for the bio:

Pascal van den DOOL is a solo crossover prog artist.

He began composing orchestral pieces in the beginning of 2014.

Still influence is orchestral music. A new world opened when he discovered prog via Pink Floyd and he made the album "Space" (in july, 2015).

After that he tried to make an album with more creativity and emotion in the album "City Between Two Seas" (january, 2016).

I think Pascal van den Dool should be moved to either Symphonic or Eclectic, rather than Crossover prog.

Firstly, it has a lot of different, mainly classical, influences. You can hear Baroque in the use of harpsichord, fugal composition (a complete fugue and techniques such as retrograde is used), counterpoint (vocals and instrumental) and basso continuo. Adaptions of classical pieces, by Haydn ("Finale") and William Walton ("The sent Alien") show classical influence. Modernist and romantic/impressionistic influence appear clearly on the Tension and Rest pieces on the album Fedus. Jazz is also very clearly there on tracks like "Libore" (almost Fusion) and the soloing on "Phentive". Even a little metal on the beginning of "Phentive".

The sound is also very eclectic and often classical, by the orchestra. Lots of different keryboards and there is even trombone used on the last album.

Lastly, each album takes a new direction, Space is very spacey and has obvious Pink Floyd influence and is fully instrumental, "City Between Two Seas" is more of Crossover with orchestra and is very lyric-orientated, "The Sent Alien" is more classically influenced and "Fedus" is more jazzy and avant with barely lyrics and no orchestra.

So I think it would be better if to put in Eclectic or Symphonic, due to the eclectic/classical influences and sound and the new direction each album takes.

Pascal, the problem is that there are soft jazzy passages and some mainstream and others, but lets see it song by song:L

1.- Tension: No Rock component, sounds mainly as Russian 20 Century Neo Classical.

2.- Fedus: Light Jazz

3.- Rest I: More Neo Classical.

4.- Tension II : More Neo Classical.

5.- Phentive: Electronic

6.- Rest II: More Neo Classical.

9.- Rest III: More Neo Classical.

10.- Tension IV: More Neo Classical.

Honestly, if I was in the Crossover team, I would had said NO, because this is a Progressive ROCK site, and in your music there is no rock except in a couple of tracks, and the jazz elements are not enough for the Fusion team.

I believe its good, but after listening carefully, not even Prog Rock.

Symphonic it isn't, and Eclectic needs a stronger amount of Rock.
