Because any time a good question is asked on the internet, the opposite of it must be asked several hours later by someone far less original Tongue

What are some songs that detract from those otherwise great releases? Some of mine are:

King Crimson - Happy Family (Lizard)
Camel - Aristillus (Moonmadness)
Genesis - Battle of Epping Forest (Selling England By The Pound)
Uriah Heep - Shadows of Grief (Look At Yourself)
Yes - Five Percent For Nothing (Fragile)
when i was a kid a doller was worth ten dollers - now a doller couldnt even buy you fifty cents

One that comes to mind is "Walk Away" on Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell - the only song on that album that might be called filler.

I'd say half the songs on 70's Genesis albums. LOL and this answer serves for both polls.

They are top albums.. but simply aren't very good albums for half the time the music is f**king great.. the other half is a frickin snooze fest.

"The Loser in the End" in Queen II
"Providence" in Red
"Happy Family" in Lizard
"Seamus" in Meddle
"Sweet Lady" in A Night at the Opera
"Five Percent for Nothing" in Fragile
"Fat Man" in Stand Up
"Four Sticks" in Led Zeppelin IV
"The Ancient" in Tales (Not the last 6 minutes)
"Revolution 9" in the White Album
"Tank" in ELP

Not prog at all, but "My World" in Use your Illusion II is the worst song ever.

Actually, I agree in part. The Battle of Epping Forest on SEbtP and the second half of the Lamb album detract from the whole. As I have said before, The Lamb has the greatest single record Genesis released; unfortunately, it's a double album.Wink

Indeed, if one song is sub-par on Lizard (except for that closing quagmire) , it's Lady Of Dancing Water

Rush - Tears (2112)
Pink Floyd - Shine On (Wish You Were Here)
Pink Floyd - Great Gig in the Sky (Dark Side)
Porcupine Tree - Sentimental (Fear of a Blank Planet)

Those are the first that come to my mind.

Haha, I thought of this question, too.
The first artist that comes to my mind for this is Kate Bush.
The Big Sky on the otherwise pretty good Hounds of Love is phenomenally annoying.
On my best album of all time list, I have The Dreaming on no. 5, still for most of the about 100 years I know this album, I hated Leave it Open. I have warmed to it a little, but it's still the worst on the album by some distance.

I adore Battle myself... when I can't fall asleep.. I put that one and WHAM!!  I am counting sheep ... dreaming of jamming with Keith Moon after drinking Janis Joplin under the table... or simply having vivid nightmares about my ex-wife...

I've always found Shine On boring and the soul vocals in Great Gig have always annoyed me. I guess I just have some unpopular opinions. LOL

^ oh no you don't. That is my street corner and I stake claim to it!  I have unpopular opinions...it is one thing to call out the mediocrity of Dull or the soporiferousness of Genesis...  but wouldn't dare say those Floyd classics are anything but frickin fabulous.  that isn't unpopular.. that is insane man LOL
