 Topic: Egg Vs. The Nice

Only three studio albums from Egg* as opposed to 5 studio albums from The Nice. But which were the better organ/drums and bass triumvirate?** I'm going with Egg. I know The Nice have Keith Emerson, but Lee Jackson's voice... 
*=OK, 4 albums if you count "Arzachel" with Steve Hillage before they changed their name to "Egg".
**=OK, four piece if you count Davy O'List for the first two albums

I quite agree on all. Jackson's voice is terrible and Arzachel is a very good album. The 5 Bridges suite is one of my favorite pices of music, but not all the Nice output is at that level.

I just like Egg better............but The Nice did some good tracks here and there.

The first thing (After "America") I heard of The Nice was their "Five Bridges Suite". And no word of a lie, although I was happy to drift along with the musical blending of classical instrumentation, the second Lee Jackson started singing, I had a vivid image in my head of riot police breaking into my room and smashing up my stereo! |

^ Sometimes it was Jackson singing, sometimes it was Dave O'List. Neither could sing worth a tuppence.

I'd have to choose Egg, the instrumental passages are more varied and interesting than a lot of what The Nice did. I have most of the Nice albums, and although I like them just fine, I think I more appreciate and respect what they did as opposed to being overly thrilled by their music. An important stepping stone in the development of prog-rock, but the really interesting stuff was yet to come. In my opinion, the vocals on both bands are the low point of their output. But I have to say, I think I liked Jackson's singing a bit better on that cool Refugee album, even thoiugh they weren't great there either!

Emerson influenced Stewart heavily but I found ELP to be far more interesting and exciting to listen to than The Nice. I love the sound of those Egg albums, particularly the post-humous Civil Surface, so Egg get my vote!
