This at least to me ,is what makes a case for literally the best tull album although thick as a brick is a stand alone masterpiece, after listening to all the tull catalogue this is simply without a doubt, a testament the pinnacle success of the band or ian a,S great vision anyone else agree ?

Stand Up is in my top 5 Tull albums. I would say Aqualung and Thick as a Brick are better, perhaps Songs from the Wood as well. But Stand Up is very diverse, a good mix of hard blues and acoustic tunes. I really learned to love Tull because of Stand Up back in the day.

Stand Up is great (especially Back to the Family which I never get tired of) but there are many Tull albums I like better (Passion/Brick/Minstrel/Too Old/Stormwatch)...

"Stand Up" is good but I think "Benefit" smokes it.

^ Love 'Stand Up' and it was the first one I heard before 'This Was'.....but my all time personal favorite is still 'Benefit'.

Stand Up is my fave Tull album together with A Passion Play. These days that's pretty much the only of their releases I listen to.

That's about right, Sean, but I'd flip Minstrel for Roots or HH.

The opening song on Benefit is the best on the album and really excellent. I like Stand Up better, though. The bluesy feel is just so classic. Really nice. Would have been better if it had Witch's Promise on it. The elevated musicianship and writing had to wait for Aqualung to come to true fruition in my eyes (ears). Aqualung > Stand Up > Benefit.

Very good but I prefer Heavy Horses, Songs from the Wood, Aqualung and Thick as a Brick (the last one their best by far).
I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place

Which year has the most tracks you consider quite strong? As good as 1969 is it's still ranked low. I'd rank them like this:

1972-taab perfect
1971-2 albums worth and quad version also. 2nd album is stronger and some quads stronger than originals
1978-strong album. 1.5 albums worth. Living in hard times awesome. Waiting for new extra tracks on 40th
1973-2 albums worth. Some of the chateau remixed tracks are great
1974-3 albums worth. 2nd album stronger for sure
1979-1.5 albums worth. Waiting for new extra tracks on 40th
1976-1.5 albums worth. 4 new tracks awesome
1977-strong album plus extra track so far. Waiting for new extra tracks on 40th
1980-cool album. Waiting for new extra tracks on 40th
1970-1.5 albums worth
1982-3 albums worth. Waiting for new extra tracks on 40th and also new remixed sound
1969-1.5 albums worth
1999-1.5 albums worth
1995-Waiting for new extra tracks on 40th
1991-1.5 albums worth
1968-1.5 albums worth
1975-over rated
1984-1.5 albums worth. Waiting for new extra tracks on 40th and also new remixed sound
1987-waiting for new remixed sound
1989-waiting for new remixed sound

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Love those remixes. They should do them all in a book format

^ It was close, they almost did.   I'm kinda glad it didn't work out that way.
