Haven't been this happy since the glorious span of 05-07 when Alonso and Kimi won all the titles. Smile

Yes, very sad about Button. As mentioned before, he was a backmarker when I got into F1 so was something to see him get a win, then a title, I didn't really think much of him honestly but he grew on me alot. End of an era for sure. Wish him all the best!

Glad that you're happy again happy JJ. I think that Button's time is over in our modern age of the teenage driver. I will miss him. His win in the rain in Canada was brilliant and is a great memory.

Well shoot, it hasn't been thaaaaaaat badLOL Been some darn good racing in recent years, and I've kind of grown to enjoy the racing more than to dislike anymore. I just never did dislike Vettel, my intense hate for Schumi gave way to respect (any word on him? God hope that guy can get some trace of a life back) I grew to like Button and Hami I always liked, though he's a bit annoying.
Ha I remember the stories about how young Button was....now starting at 20?? That's archaicLOL

I do remember that race. Was a classic, and one of the times I was really really wowed by him.

Oh. A poor choice of words on my part. I meant happy in regards to a Finn (or son of a Finn) winning the championship. You are far from a grouch and always gracious. Smile

I was thinking more like, you were getting concerned about my mental health!
Which would be a fair statement, but thankfully no depression or F1 related issues!LOL

True....I guess I can accept Nico as an honorary Finn. I mean he's got that Finnish blood, just happened to have born and lived in Germany, but is a true finn indeed!

Nope, no mental health issues that I can see, or obvious ones. If so, I would have directed you to one of the schizophrenic prog troll websites. There are several that I can think of. LOL

Nico Rosberg announces retirement.  I have a lot of respect for him and makes this Championship even more sweeter.

Yeah, did not see that coming at all.

Should be interesting to see who gets the second seat, I'm rooting for Carlos Sainz.

I'm not sure this will make JJ happy. I'm certainly not as he kept Hamilton honest. Confused  This reminds of F1 in the seventies and eighties. When a driver was lucky enough to survive until he won the title, he would then pack it in. I'm sure Nico's decision was based on family concerns, so good luck to him and many thanks. Thumbs Up

Dammit, why did Jenson have to retire!?  He could've had that seat and won some more races before retiring for good.  Wishful thinking, I know.

^I'm not sure that the ride would have been offered to him. The trend now in F1 is much younger, especially teenage, talent.

Front running teams tend to be quite conservative on this though, they're much more likely to take a driver with a few years experience than a rookie (exceptions being the very rare talents like Verstappen and drivers that a team has been preparing for years like Vandoorne).

Thats why I think Sainz and Grosjean are the 2 most likely suspects to get the seat, both are going to be relatively easy to extricate from their current contracts, have experience and are known to be quick. Wherlein, whilst a Mercedes driver, has only a single year at Manor and a couple of years in the DTM, I'd be surprised if Wolff thought he was ready to support a title challenge.

I agree and they are also much younger than Button.

Just saw the news. Wow. Guess can't blame the guy for wanting to go out on top. Crazy to think he's really not that old, but I've been hearing his name forever it feels like! Oh yes the discussion of who will take the seat shall be juicy. .....any chance of Alonso? LOL

I would love Hulkenberg who I've long felt is deserving but he's too"old" now. They will want a youngster who's hot and upcoming. Hulk has experience of course and has proven to be capable. Hell really lots are qualified.

No shock, but this is my hope. Tongue I understand that there is a greater likelihood that aliens will visit earth and give everyone a free lifetime supply of hamburgers before that happens though.

It's a rumour, but I gather that they actually asked for Hulk but Renault said no, not for sale.

Hey, maybe Jeff Gordon could come out of retirement and be Lewis' teammate.  My mind would literally explode. LOL

^ For the millions that Mercedes is paying Niki Lauda as a chairman/consultant, they should put him in the car! LOL

To see that red helmet in action in my life would be amazing, but it's only dream-worthy.  Sounds like Alonso is getting strong consideration by Mercedes.  That might annoy Lewis a little bit, even though he wants the best there is to challenge him. LOL

That won't happen, I'm afraid.  His contract is locked and McClaren won't release him.
