About 20 years ago I hit a wall in discovering new prog.  I had all the standard prog band and related solo prog artist albums and had printed out the huge "Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock" and added everything I could find in my local record stores.  Other than the Italian lyric PFM albums, I'd never tried any non-English lyric prog.  I found a great guy named Ranjit (who many PA members may remember) who only lived a few miles away and could get any prog album you could possibly want from anywhere in the world.  One day at his house, he put on Pulsar's Halloween and I was sold.  I decided to take a shot at French prog.  I started slow and bought his copy of Pulsar's Halloween as it was a French band but still had English lyrics.  I loved it, I decided there wasn't much difference between French prog with such a heavy accent that I couldn't understand the English lyrics, and French prog singing French lyrics...besides, I took a year of French in high school so thought I might be able to pick up a word here or there...so...  Next stop, Ange!  Then Atoll, Mona Lisa, Versailles, then the French instrumental bands, and of course Magma: though my high school didn't offer classes in Kobaian LOL

I just sorted through the 250 highest rated French prog albums in the PA database and included all those I have in my collection in order of album ratings, high to low.  I'm very curious how many other PA members are into these albums as well.

This is a multiple choice poll, so please vote for all your fave French prog albums from my list Wink

France has great lyricists, unfortunately not in progressive music. Though some lyrics by Ange are not so bad.

Magma will get my vote, but there are some great choices here.

All of these are fabulous! Au Dela du Delire is in my top 10 all-time...Great prog from France ....
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

I haven't heard most of these albums. I've been meaning to explore French prog but never had the time. I guess this list is a good place to start Wink

Lot of good stuff, but Plat du Jour is the best IMO

I like early Atoll and Ange. One I have really enjoyed immensely in recent months is Emmanuel Booz's Dans quel état j'erre, released in 1979. It's insane!

Voted for Clearlight as that is the only one I am familiar with.  Looks like a lot to explore.

Did see Jean-Michel Jarre on the list, like quite a few of his albums.

Have almost all of these as French Prog used to be my main thing. Won't vote for all I like, but am voting for Docteur Faust, Les Morts Vont Vite, Plat du Jour, and Chronolyse. Could also add votes for Clearlight Symphony, Arachnoid, Gialorgues, Et Apres, and En Regardent Passer les Temps, Udu Wudu etc.

The only Heldon album I have is "Un Reve Sans Consequence Speciale" and it wasn't ranked in PA's top 250 Wink
