I do like the new Mute Gods album, but I cannot stand that "Feed the Troll" song. The chorus is so obnoxious! For those of you who have not heard the rest of the record, you have already heard the worst song on it. It only goes up from there.

Aye he turned to the darkside, now Plays with Steve Hackett, Steve Wilson and has his own prog group called the Mute Gods!
Slight correction - Nick Beggs is an English GOD......(.....carry on.......) You need to check out the pre- 'Goo band ART NOUVEAU (the four of them before Limahl joined) - some interesting stuff right there........ As for the O.P. pic - I thought it was a picture of Grizzly Adams........

I don't see what so offensive about Images and Words. I'm not too much into prog metal, but even I thought it was a good Dream Theater album.

Woah.. What happened here?
I know that I'm a bit late to the party, but.. People getting hostile because of someone's avatar, which happens to be an album cover for a Roger Waters album? I don't understand. It's a great album, and sure the cover can be deemed sexist, but it is very appropriate given the subject matter of the album.
I think feminism is great. People should be supporting equal rights for both men and women, but people shouldn't go insane about images like this. It's an illustration, and if someone wants to say that men aren't also objectified sometimes, go ahead.
It's an album cover. There is no reason to become hostile because of it. If you have a complaint, take it up with Mr. Waters, not Mr. Matthew _Gill, who is probably a fan of this wonderful album and nothing more.
Also, Nick Beggs is freaking amazing! I saw him play with Steven Wilson a few months ago, and he owns the Chapman Stick.
So I recommend two things.. Go see Nick Beggs play with Steven Wilson, and go listen to The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking by Roger Waters. It really is a great album.
Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?

Mathew changed the album cover (I didn't find it offensive, incidentally), and I didn't see people going insane about it, nor did I see much hostility.
I think you're much too late to the party, there used to be much more hostility, insanity, not to mention offensiveness and altogether more fun in the forums. Or probably that's just nostalgia talking -- pining for the good old days. lol

Nothing wrong with the 'Goo - great fun and great musicianship - looking past the New-Wave campiness of it all, they are pretty awesome. Nick was already ruling the bass. Most were bona-fide Prog-heads before forming the band !!

No just that jacket.
It probably is nostalgia. But let's hear it for nostalgia.

nostalgia? we love nostalgia...and give it and what the site used to be a couple of clappies
yeah man.. we didn't call this place the wild west for nothing. Women were non existent other than the infamous Art-Rock brothel I used to run and even then there were a few that were as nasty and vicious as the feared quick draw gunslingers that were kings of the site and walked down main street here shooting down both the innocent and not so innocents (DT fans and those annoying Libertarian kiddies) with great pleasure.
You knew it was bad when one of the most feared forum thugs was an admin...

If they were "bona-fide Prog heads", how the hell did they come up with such crap as Too Shy? Just f'ing awful!

Too Shy is an absolutely adorable song. Stop dissing it.
Too Shy is a ripper of a pop song - the extended 'Midnight Mix' is arranged in such a way where Beggs' bass is mixed really up-front and it's instrumental for the first half or so - it really highlights many techniques of his playing - slapping/popping, chords, mutes, trills, hammer-ons etc. And it's a very difficult line to play. Stu's Keyboards are lush and tasteful (sometimes goofy, but it was the 80's). He did go to Hawkwind and Budgie gigs in the 70's. Guitars are inventive (Steve uses an e-bow, for example) and I suppose Jez just keeps the beat on his electronic kit. Anyway, it's not the best song they've done - check out some instrumentals they've done : The Garden, Introduction, The Pump Rooms Of Bath (don't ask ....) - they matured after Limahl got booted out. When Nick was around 15, he was introduced to Close To The Edge - he got obsessed with Squire and took up the bass. He loved Sabbath too. He thought of using a Ricky but the sound didn't suit the band. And why not style a band around the current popular trends - they did want to be successful. Perhaps if Nick wasn't the bassist, I would not bother with Kaja.........?

All this for a band that's worse than The Fixx and Los Flock of Seagulls. And does this mean that Nick Beggs is the new Steven Wilson?
