The album that I think defines rush as a major band ,within the progressive rock genre, is this collection of songs. The worst I think is Cinderella man, i liked it very much when I first listen it has not aged well, the best   is xanadu, if any of you feel different about this rush release,Ouch please let me know note: FOR RUSH FANS ONLY !!!

Please use some punctuation, I've had to read this 3 times to work it all out.

I still like Cinderella Man but I agree that Xanadu is the best track. Possibly my favourite Rush album.

Not my personal favorite Rush album but definitely killer! On the R40 show that I saw, they did a whopping 3 songs from this album - Xanadu, Closer to the Heart, and Cygnus X-1, which was awesome! Here's a shot from Xanadu, doublenecks and all:

Farewell to Kings is a great album. One of the few I have on vynil.

Closer to the Heart is a special song to me.

Hemispheres would be that album for me.  Only four songs, but each are rock solid prog tunes.  The Trees is legendary.

I still have much love for A Farewell to Kings, though.  I saw them live in Philly this past June, and when they played Xanadu and Cygnus X-1, I was loving life.  The set was a slow starter, though, since they were doing songs in reverse chronological order.  I don't fancy much of what they've done since Vapor Trails, and they didn't play the songs I do like from those albums.  But once they got to Grace Under Pressure, it was awesome from that point on.

A Farewell To Kings is a great record. Saw them on that tour in the Ottawa Civic Center in April of 1977, Max Webster opening. Did almost everything on that album. There was a gigantic animated backdrop to accompany Cygnus X-1. Awesome.

I actually bought it on Vinyl recently, very happy with it. The title track is awesome, Xanadu is a masterpiece, Closer to the Heart is a great love song, I like Cinderella Man, but I don't love it, Madrigal I find quite underrated, and Cygnus X-1 is very intense but good!

A very good album, and an important one for Rush. However, for me it's a rehearsal for Hemispheres which I think is better. Hemispheres is better performed, better produced and the keyboards are slightly more in tune..

Best track on AFTK for me is Cygnus X-1. Xanadu is also excellent athough I prefer the live version on ESL.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

As I grow older, there are fewer and fewer Rush discs that I like to spin in their entirety. Farewell To Kings is one of them. I think I love it more now than I did when I was younger.

Great album, though not my favorite Rush album.

In the 70s, or maybe right around 1980 (I've been a Rush fan since I saw them open for KISS in 1975), there was a guy who set up shop in sort of a kiosk at our local mall. He did custom airbrushed t-shirts--really fine work at a ridiculously affordable price for what he was doing. Among others, I had him airbrush me the cover of A Farewell to Kings.

Ay, it is a great album! And I feel Cinderella Man shows the group in fine form for that period with its eloquent beginning and all. Xanadu is the show stopper, though. It also can be ventured that Closer to the Heart indeed put them on the map with a lot of non-believers. I know it did with me. Good stuff, Maynard.

A superb album. Not a duff track on it. I always thought Cinderella Man has a very strong Jethro Tull feel to it.

Madrigal is the weakest track, it's a bit lame. BUt the melody is nice.

The whole album though is a cracker IMO.

The best rush is Permanent Waves.
