Thoughts on the band? Been listening to them a lot lately, they never did a "masterpiece" but every albums is great and has some memorable tunes.

Some of my favorite tracks are:

-Wrapped Around your Finger
-Tea in the Sahara
-Spirits in a Material World
-King of Pain
-Next to You
-So Lonely

(Ignoring the classics like Every Breath, Roxanne, Message in a Bottle, etc.)

They were quite a unique band, mixing pop, jazz, punk and reggae (almost) at the same time.
I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place

No masterpiece albums, but a masterpiece band. They got better as time went on. Personally i love the last two albums the best. Those two are near masterpieces for me :)

i remember i saw a documentary once about the Police, were they mentioned that around the last two albums, as Sting did not only dress up like a devil, but he almost believe he was Lucifer or something, which was quite an interesting information.

I only really like Outlandos D'amour (Regatta is ok but too similar)

Somehow, Ghost In A Machine is their second best, IMHO, but I never even owned it.

I saw them as a support act a few months before they became famous and instantly recognised them as a band that would go far. I can't say I liked them much at the time or since, but prefer them as a band over Sting as a solo artist. (I can say the same of The Jam and Paul Weller).
What?

Great stuff.....the Police are a fun listen.  Can't put them on too often.....the first three albums are almost interchangeable - nothing to really differentiate the tunes.  The final two records brought about some change.....IMO, Ghost is their best record, but even that album crumbles as the second side progresses.  Synchro is a good album but the radio hits make listening to it as a whole almost impossible.....just heard those singles way too often as a kid.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

I think there are some good tracks on all of their albums ...I suppose Synchronicity being my favorite back in the day. Haven't listened to them in a long time.

Always liked this track.....

Good band. Love Sychronicity and Ghost in the machine.

Rush were big fans apparently. I think you can hear their influence on Moving pictures and Signals.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Big fan back in the 80s, still listen to them a lot.  No Time at All (from RDB) one of my favorites, the drumming on that track is spectacular.

hard to pick a favorite they really are all damn good albums. I like the comment earier.. none exactly masterpiece status.. yet not a bad album in the bunch.

Great band.  Great songs.  5 great albums....and done.  I did get to see them play live on their reunion tour...but that seems to have been a one and done thing for them.  No new albums.  No coming around 3 or 4 times while stating this is the last time.

Very good band. You'll note that many of their tracks were built with some wonderful reggae stylings in the instrumentation ("Walking On The Moon" has to be the most obvious example of this choice), and in general their songs were just catchy and fun to listen to.

I have all the albums as proper cassette releases. As the only working tape-player is in my car, I don't listen to them often. So, trawling through my memory, some outstanding songs that really impress me :
Walking On The Moon
Roxanne
Behind My Camel
Masoko Tanga
Tea In The Sahara
Regatta de Blanc
The Bed's Too Big Without You
Spirits In The Material World
Murder By Numbers
Wrapped Around Your Finger
Gawd, I'll have to fish these tapes out real soon............

And that's funny coming from someone who likes RPI to a distraction since they are neither catchy nor fun.

au contraire good doctor.. as my wife. .as anyone who has followed my musical tastes via FB or even here could tell you...

I love good pop, good country, good polka, good bluegrass, good funk, jazz, classical, even the f**king Wiggles...just as much as I enjoy good prog.

one can say anything bad about me.. call me a b*****d.. as son of bitch.. a drunk.. scum.. even an a****le.. it all rolls off of me..

call me a progger.. and it will be dueling pistols at high noon.  I like prog.. but it is only one of many forms of music I like. LOL
