Topic: Good fishing/kayaking jams Posted: April 24 2016 at 22:59 |
Hey all,
It's spring time and time to get outside and do some fishing! I go fishing on my kayak and take my ipod and a little portable music speaker out with me (pro tip: put them in a ziplock bag and boom, waterproof) so I'm looking for some recommendations for good spring/summer fishing music. This is mostly background music so I'm looking for some nice relaxing music.
Here are some albums/artists I current listen to out there:
Bert Jansch - Avocet (really would like some more music like this one) XTC - Skylarking Dire Straits - Making Movies, Love Over Gold, Brothers Traffic - John Barelycorn Must Die, Low Spark..., Shoot out... Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn Caravan - If I could do it..., In the Land of Grey and Pink Gazpacho - Tick Tock (great for embracing the heat) Pink Floyd - Animals, Wish you were here Camel - Snow Goose I and Thou - Speak Pat Metheny - 1978, New Chautauqua, Watercolors Porupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun, Stupid Dream Focus - Hamber Concerto

no suggestions yet guys? (it is a poorly named topic, it was late and I was drinking ) I was listening to Camel's Moonmadness and Rajaz today and wonder why I never put them on out on the water. Adding them to the playlist!

It seems to me that just about any calm music would do the trick. But if I were to give one recommendation in particular I'd go with Si On Avait Besoin d'Une Cinquieme Saison by Harmonium. Very rural, pastoral folk-tinged symphonic prog that was written with the Canadian outdoors (and in particular the different seasons) in mind.

I would imagine that some calmer Jethro Tull would work well.

Never really got into them, any albums in particular I should look for? Only song I know off hand is Blue Sky and that is a perfect fishing song.

Love that album, and it's already on my ipod, should of been a no-brainer, thanks!

In general, you want to go for Allman Brothers live releases, but as far as studio albums go, their original run up until 1973 is pretty great. - Self-Titled: Great if you're looking for blues rock, as well as the sublime jazz-influenced Dreams, which features some of Duane Allman's best slide soloing.
- Idlewild South: Not really an essential release; most of the stuff on here has been improved upon in live versions. Revival is the only real essential track I can think of, an uptempo country rock tune with some proggy guitar jamming at the start and hippie-themed lyrics.
- Eat A Peach: A double album, this is a real mixed bag of goodies, featuring some instrumental jams (Les Brers), some mellow country ballads (Melissa, Blue Sky), some scorching live blues numbers (One Way Out) as well as the monumental Mountain Jam, a 30+ spectacle of southern rock jamming. This is my personal favourite Allman Brothers album.
- Brothers And Sisters: This is after Duane Allman's death when Dickey Betts took over as band leader, so the music is more country-oriented. If you liked Blue Sky, this album would probably be right up your alley. Ramblin' Man and Jessica are the most well-known songs but Come and Go Blues and Southbound are both great southern rock tunes.
And as for live releases, the best starting point is At Fillmore East. This is a famous album for a reason. The first disc is more blues-oriented while the second is more jazz fusion/prog-related material. Really, if you're looking for inspired guitar jamming, look no further than You Don't Love Me, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed or Whipping Post.

inside joke.. you'll learn to ignore me for the most part. Great group.. but not really what you are looking for here. Relaxing is probably is not. Makes me want to go medeval and crack a beer bottle over someone's head. Fishing is like Golf to me... not exactly a 'relaxing' activity. It is a combat sport. Be it clubs.. or poles.. something is being tossed into the water in a flurry of foul language...
