I find it that when I listen to the albums before writing the reviews, I often notice these little neat details or just enjoy the work a lot more. I wrote a review for Comus' First Utterance just yestarday and I'm completely hooked by the album. I knew about it for a long while, but actually a review from one of the members reminded me of the work. I find the dark, ominous moods inexplicable and so emotional. They picture certain scenarios very clearly. Great album!

And now um... I found myself wanting the cover to hang in my house. Big smile

Yeah itīs a great dark progressive folk rock album, no doubt about it. One of the "Classics" of the genre.

Love this one, totally unique group.  Drip Drip probably my favourite track - Roger Wootton sounding properly demented.

My first review because it's probably one of my top ten favorite albums. It is one of hte few albums that helps me transcend into another dimension. Don't be surprised if it grows into a 5 star behemoth. I never tire of it

It's been a minute since I've heard someone mention this album. It's probably my favorite album of all time, either that or KCs Red. i know it's not perfect or anything but there's so much energy in it, songs like drip drip, and songs to comus make me thrash around more than any metal. I can't believe it came out in 71 comus is really ahead of their time, I read somewhere critics didn't like it when it first came out.

Check Jan Dukes De Grey - Mice and Rats in the Loft, for an album with a similar feel.

Yeah, I've just written a 5-star review of that a few days ago! A very, very good album! Spirogyra's debut is kind of similar to the two in places.

This is one of those albums that gets rave reviews by many and is mentioned in many prog and folk circles.
I bought it on cd in the mid 90's  ( I think)  because it was recommended by a friend who turned me onto many obscure prog and folk things that I was not aware of on the original vinyl.
Well.....it never appealed to me , though I have to say that the playing is above average and the concept truly is original with a very atmospheric vibe to it. But it's just not all that pleasant to listen to imho.
Several tracks are easy gong and several are  somewhat obnoxious....a strange one for the ages.
Every now and then I revisit it to see if i can 'grok' it in a better way.

Thumbs Up That and First Utterance are the twin peaks of dark freaky British folk rock for me.

Mind you there are some modern bands doing good stuff in that approximate vein.  I like the album Wood Witch by The Hare And The Moon, for instance.
