Richard Wright as a composer, Manfred Mann as a player.

Manfred Mann by far. He is better than Wright (R.I.P) as a composer and as a player. I love Pink Floyd and ofcourse I love Wright but I want to be Honest and I pick Manfred Mann.

I think Mann is a better player overall with more variety over the years......but obviously Wright was in a huge band so that tends to color things but I have never been overly impressed with Wright's playing.

Although the mid-60's band did covers, the arrangement and contributions outweigh Richard Wright's UFO improvisations.
I prefer Pink Floyd to Manfred Mann's Earth Band, but Manfred Mann had the far superior 1980's streak.
And I'm not accepting "Oh that's all down to Roger Waters bullying, even Roger thinks that's bollocks. Mann produced more work than sailing yachts.
So Manfred Mann I vote for!

This pitches the keyboarders of the first two prog bands I discovered against each other. Gotta say, I still love them both. Others have already given very good reasons to vote for the Mann but Wright contributed strongly to the Pink Floydian atmosphere and I also like him as a team player surrounded by (at least two) egos. So can't do other than vote "both".

Both great keyboard players, composers and orchestrators, each on his own right.

Both.

Mann is more inventive, but Wright creates great atmospheres.

Two great players.

I've never been too much into Mann's music.

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

I don't know Manfred Mann, but of course I love Pink Floyd and Wright, and lately listening again to Pink Floyd I have gained an even better apreciation of him... even more if I consider early Floyd. And finding out that he was the main composer of a song such as Echoes, one of the great favourites of the band, should put his contributions to the band in better perspective.

you should know Manfred hes quit good, even has some floydian influence, hes probably the most impprtant moog player after Emerson, you might like hes face three, the jazz rock fusion albums so MMEB is quite heavy and progy and psych, and jazzy,

Hes the most innovative soloist in prog on keyboards imo

I voted for "both." My reasoning was thus: Pink Floyd's the greatest band ever, and Wright's contribution cannot be overestimated. On the other hand, his solo albums, while pleasant enough, were basically unmemorable. On the other hand, Manfred Mann created what might very well be the absolute best Billboard hit of the 1970s in "Blinded By the Light." I know Springsteen wrote it, and the weirdness of Mann covering it is probably a large part of why it's so great. But still... A brilliant song, one of *the* best cover versions ever (easily surpasses the original), and my pick for best hit of the decade, one of the few prog songs to hit it big ("Hey, let's throw in 'Chopsticks' at this part" - WTF?!?), at least in the US: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJh47LybCkU
